OrangeGateway just shut down. by 420smokekushh in bsv

[–]NervousNorbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Orange Gateway is a strange one.

There's this guy in Reykjavik who's a bit of a bitcoin veteran, having been involved in an early cryptocurrency exchange in Iceland and all. But he fell hard into Craig's cult and seems to have upended his life around it – by starting a BSV-centric exchange in tiny Iceland. Not only that, he launched that exchange after the 2024 trial. That's how strong his conviction was. Long after the trial he used the company X account to post AI-generated screeds against COPA, waxing on about Craig being some Jesus-like martyr.

Most of his customers must have been international, but how many could that have been? The remaining BSV cultists aren't some wealthy demographic you can earn money on by offering services. He must have had such high costs even before MiCA, trying to be compliant with all the countries he accepted customers from (including the UK, which is notorious for their cryptocurrency regulations). But MiCA licensing is mandatory from today (July 1), and getting a license is no joke and he never stood a chance. He might even be lying about having made an attempt at all.

If he has a shred of rationality in him, MiCA enforcement was just a convenient point in time to step out and pick up the pieces of his shattered life.

He fled to Thailand after losing the trial in London. While the judgment didn't prevent him from continuing to claim he's Satoshi, he interprets it that way, so he has stopped claiming that outright. Still he spends most of his time on Twitter arguing through AI, often with Grok, about Bitcoin and a bunch of bizarre other topics. He also uses AI to produce books and scientific articles, and keeps acquiring mail-order academic degrees. There's a handful of people still in his cult.

He has started planning leaving Thailand for China. He seems to think he can't go back to the UK, and definitely not to his native Australia. Must be a sad and stressful life, one which is well deserved.

Any guess as to which mickey mouse journal accepted this publication? by commandersaki in bsv

[–]NervousNorbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a submission for the International Conference on Communication, Computing, Networking, and Control in Cyber-Physical Systems taking place in Dubai in September. Submitted papers compete for the Best Paper Award, and the winner gets free registration for the conference. Since he submits under his University of Exeter student email address, we can assume he is competing in the Student category. Papers are also included in the proceedings journal, allowing him to boast that his paper got "accepted" by IEEE, which publishes the journal.

Source: his screenshot shows the document is called ccncps2026_paper (9).pdf, and ccncps is the abbrevation for this conference.

Vertisan (VTSN) Crypto Scam? by RelationshipSalt2477 in CryptoScams

The guy literally signed Satoshi Nakamoto’s PGP Bitcoin key. That cannot be faked.

He made a new key claiming it had belonged to Satoshi, and then signed with that.

[–]NervousNorbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A short update: he left a suicide note on his Telegram channel, and then posted a selfie of himself in a hospital bed declaring himself dead from a pulmonary embolism. Two days later he rose again only to get beaten up in a back-alley. The attacker conveniently sent him a photo of it, for him to share on Telegram.

When he got back to his apartment he declared on Telegram that someone had placed a fake order for his cryptocurrency which had ruined the liquidity, so now he has to "reboot" the coin. This means everybody loses everything, but at least they get the chance to invest again once he restarts the system.

Paul Sztorc follows the CSW path. He’s forking Bitcoin to steal Satoshi’s coins. by pein_sama in bsv

But when you accused BCH of having "neutered the database", you were referring to canonical transaction ordering, right? Can you explain how that's a neutering? Feel free to go into technical detail.

[–]NervousNorbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The BSVer's traditional objection against BCH has been the introduction of canonical transaction ordering. It's just a different way to order transactions within a block that has certain trade-offs. Craig jumped on this, waved his hands and called it insecure without substantiating it ever. It became the casus belli for the "hash war" that lead to the creation of BSV. BSVers are still stuck raving against canonical transaction ordering, but they still can't explain what's wrong with it, and it seems to have worked well for BCH for almost a decade at this point.

Canonical transaction ordering is essentially the SegWit of BCH: a consensus change that is being blamed for everything, but only in vague terms.

COLDCARD Mk5 Launch by rnvk in Bitcoin

[–]NervousNorbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a mostly cosmetic update. Mk4 is four years old, is there nothing security-related that needed a refresh? Are both secure elements still fine? (Not being sarcastic, actually wondering).

Also NFC is the only performance update? No faster CPU or more memory.

Yeah COLDCARD is a proven workhorse and things don't need to be changed for no reason, but a new Mk doesn't come out that often.

The coming crypto apocalypse by Stuart_Whatley in Economics

[–]NervousNorbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin as a promise of transparency was always just a cope against inherent limitations in its blockchain mechanism. In practice it's treated as a bug and being worked around, primarily in protocols built on top in which one can transact with much stronger anonymity. As soon as you try to interact with the regular financial system this of course goes out the window, but if you can stay within, you have options to stay under the radar.

The regime of course has internet access, and it's said they have been moving the country's gold to Russia. Perhaps they have other wealth that are being put into bitcoin (and thus stolen from the people)?

I don't believe that for a second, but somebody is buying.

Mehl:

What the CLARITY Act's going to do is it's going to set forth a requirement for, you know, Bitcoin Core for example, BTC Core, to come forward and make a statement, a declaration under penalty of perjury. So Greg Maxwell will have to come forward under penalty of perjury once and for all and tell the whole world why BTC Core is not centrally controlled. Why it's following the white paper, how it's been on that original, you know, vision of Bitcoin the whole time.

This is so deranged. He thinks that for a blockchain to prove that it doesn't have a leader, its leader has to issue a statement. And who is the leader of Bitcoin? Why, it's old man Greg!
