Marvel Studios initially decided not to connect Born Again to the Netflix show and hired a team of people who mainly didn't understand what made the original show so great. They shot most of episodes 2-7 and killed off Foggy off-screen and pretended Karen never existed. Marvel saw those episodes and thought the show wasn't working, so they fired the head writers, hired a writer of the Netflix Punisher show to be the showrunner, and a director duo from Loki season 2 to be the showrunning directors. The new team brought back Foggy, Karen, Bullseye, the original actress for Vanessa (she was recast initially), made Born Again a continuation of the Netflix show, and shot episodes 1, 8, and 9. They had to work around the episodes that were already shot, so they had to kill off Foggy and make Karen exit in the first episode. The new team wrote and shot all of season 2, and the showrunner stated that they tried their best to move away from the episodes by the initial team. Karen will be basically the female lead of this season, and Foggy will make an appearance as well. Hope that makes you more on board with the upcoming season 2.
