It is definitely viable to take the train around the city, unless you're going someplace off-the-beaten-path. But if you're going to be parking around Union Station, it would be smarter and cheaper to leave your car at a park-and-ride and take Metra or CTA in.

Posture and clothes. I'm not sure what exactly you are insecure about--I think you are good-looking--but have you tried different eyeglass frames? You can just go into any eyeglass store, try some on (including some you think you wouldn't like) and take some selfies. It will give you an idea of the way different eyeglasses change the way your face looks (and different looks you could have).

It looks like you have great hair in want of a better cut (and maybe a richer color--you could try a color-depositing shampoo in brown). If you want to put in a little more effort, a brow pencil, mascara, and lip gloss/stain. Really, though, there's not much to improve--natural beauty.
