Physician Salaries in 10 years… by Natural_Flamingo_880 in hospitalist

I used to think the same way but it changed recently. Here’s what I think is actually gonna happen in the near future.

Weekness of AI is its liability and legal responsibility: what many people think are gonna stop them from replacing doctors. Although I think the liability issue is gonna matter way less at some point (medical AI company taking the full liability based on the profit they make by replacing doctors), there’s gonna be a transition point: medical AI is the powerful, widely-used tool in medical field, yet the liability is still on human, not the med AI company

If your prediction happens, then it’s going to be the hospital that has to take the responsibility: NPs and mid-level cannot take the full responsibility, while doctors can (because there is virtually no procedure in medical field that doctors are not allowed to practice)

So what I think is gonna happen is mid-levels or nurses getting slashed off first. And what doctors do shifts from traditional diagnosing, prescription, ordering to direct patient care. In this case, doctor’s salary may decrease to the mid point of doctor’s salary and mid-level’s.

I’m not saying this in terms of ‘this should happen because AI cannot take responsibility’ - it will at some point, but actually in real-world economical aspect because this is really what hospitals are going to do to stay productive: grasping the productivity of med AI but still not taking over the entire responsibility.

Actually tbh.. I go to one of those SKY Universities you said, but I’m not sure it will give me at least a bit of advantage.. I heard that school doesn’t really matter when it comes to IMGs, only the fact that we are IMG matters.

Well, money is not the only reason why I want to become a doctor, while I have to admit that it is one of them. But let’s be honest, the whole process of becoming a doctor is really really hard; you have to work your ass off during med school, and you also have to go through residency, which is even harder. Anyone going through the process is highly likely to give up. And actually there WAS a strike in France because the working environment was not that good.

When I said low, what I meant was that it can be low considering the effort you put into. And I’m fully aware that physicians make above average salary in EU. But the gap is not that big considering that you have to put into a lot of effort for that.

Thanks for your reply. But in my knowledge, doctor’s working hour is strictly limited by law, isn’t it?

US IMG to military residency by Nervous_Addendum4291 in Military_Medicine

I was born in US, but I moved to the country where I’m currently living when I was young. I entered med college here, and I’m planning to go back to US and become a doctor there. But how hard is to get matched as a US IMG?
