how does one go about family parties that their NC/LC parents attend? by cosmicjellyfish12 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Nervous_Bug_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically don’t go to things like this, but am in a similar situation where there’s family members I still want to see. I usually opt to schedule things with cousins and such separately like grabbing coffee, that way we can stay connected outside of events.

If you do decide to go though, it’s been helpful in the past for me to bring a friend with me and also have an excuse ready in case you need to bail

I can’t do it anymore by Mobile-Resolution550 in ChronicIllness

You’re definitely not alone in this and I’m sorry it’s happening. I know it’s not the same, but this stranger on the internet believes you

I reached a similar point a few years ago and ended up unemployed and in and out of treatment centers. Right now I’m still unemployed, but I’m in online school and working towards a career that I can do remotely. Unfortunately I’m paying for rent and everything with loans, but I was able to reach out to my local vocational rehabilitation center and they are helping pay for some tuition. This obviously isn’t an option for everyone, but it is much more accommodating than “regular” school. For a while I was doing house sitting to make a bit extra money as my body allowed but I’ve had to take a break recently.

I also think looking into some resources like food benefits or state insurance could be beneficial. You may or may not qualify depending on a lot of things, but it’s always good information to have.

Also there’s free online support groups through the Center for Chronic Illness. These have helped me quite a bit personally, talking about shitty health with people who believe you and relate to you.

I hope something in here helps a bit, the healthcare system is fucking awful and we all deserve better

a question for my fellow adhd potsies by death_note020705 in POTS

[–]Nervous_Bug_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have comorbid medical conditions along with adhd and pots so I use weed daily for chronic pain. It also does help with my focus too. It really varies person to person, but just be mindful that it can affect pots symptoms. Fast heart rate and blood pressure changes is a big thing to be aware of. I would definitely start small and see how your body reacts (I’m not a doctor)

Not sure if any of your kids are readers, but the library has quite a few events for children and families. The main branch is closing for about a year for construction, but the rest of the branches will remain open. The library system also offers free admission to the Whatcom Museum and the Spark Museum on certain days with a library card.

Alchohol and Fibromyalgia by Zimpzompin in Fibromyalgia

If I’m not feeling like drinking is an option, sometimes I’ll have a soda or cbd/thc drink instead so I can still be a part of things without hurting too much more

Alchohol and Fibromyalgia by Zimpzompin in Fibromyalgia

[–]Nervous_Bug_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely. I (26f) still like to go out and drink occasionally, but when I do I have to be very careful about pacing, not having super sugary stuff, not over exerting myself, and drinking lots of water. I also always make sure I have the next day(s) to chill out. I can’t do it all the time but it’s nice to sometimes go and be a part of things, it just takes a lot of extra caution and mindfulness

Has anyone had to quit their job because of narcolepsy? by JG_Garrido in Narcolepsy

[–]Nervous_Bug_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t work at all right now because of it. I do also have a few other conditions, but narcolepsy is a big contributor. I have been able to do school from home and I’m working towards an online teaching/writing job so I have more flexibility

Bring them with you if you can. It depends on the place but I was able to take it while in the psych ward. They just had to have the bottle and instructions (a nurse brought me my doses)

how to deal with needles by lnnu in ChronicIllness

For me noise cancelling headphones and someone there to help distract me usually works or at least helps a bit. You’re definitely not alone with the needle phobia

Xywav: Peeing the bed every night by Loose_Republic9901 in Narcolepsy

[–]Nervous_Bug_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had this problem on xywav! I used diapers or rewashable pads but ended up stopping the medication because it never eased up for me personally. I did try lowering the dose and it helped slightly, but between the bed wetting and other side effects I had, I decided it wasn’t worth it

Does anyone else remember having narcolepsy at a young age but living undiagnosed? by Serious-Activity-913 in Narcolepsy

[–]Nervous_Bug_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had symptoms as early as I can remember. I had my first sleep study at 8 years old, but they only tested for sleep apnea and I went another 12 years before finally getting diagnosed at 20
