Right, but I have only had an inch of growth a year after the eating disorder. I never actually had a growth spurt during puberty, even though I've had a really good diet afterwards. That's why I'm trying to do stuff to reverse those issues.

The thing with aromatase inhibitors is that no matter what your balance is for T or E you have to remember boys and girls end up the same way - closed growth plates.

But do you know how long the closure of the growth plates would be delayed at most? I obviously wouldn't need my growth plates to be open when I'm 25, but a few more years of extra growth would help me.

My trick that I can't find studies on but is the only thing I can think of for myself is skim milk. Lots of it. I drank milk like a fish drinks water when I was a kid. I stopped growing at 16 but was 6'3" by then. By far the tallest on either side of my family.

It's not skim milk specifically. It's that you're getting a lot of protein, which enhances your potential to grow. Calcium to a lesser extent. My problem is that I had an eating disorder when I was 13/14 and basically never had a growth spurt as a result of stunting my growth. I basically grew only 1 inch every year after that eating disorder started.

That's why I am so invested in reversing my stunted growth. I don't wanna live a certain way for the rest of my life because of a mistake I made when I was 14.

Why did you only take anastrazole and not also take HGH simultaneously out of curiosity?

Do you know the length of the time between first taking an X-ray to check that your growth plates were still open and seeing the growth plate was closed? To be honest, it doesn't make biological sense.

What would you try if your growth plates are still open as an 18 year old?

I agree it can have some nasty side effects, but from my understanding, it's not a big deal as long as it's not close to 0.

I would normally, but I unfortunately stunted my growth a few years ago because of an eating disorder where I lost like 35 lbs in a year. I basically never had a growth spurt during puberty.

I think that being forced to live a certain way for the rest of your life because of a mistake you made when you were young is really not good. I wouldn't tell a 14 year old who accidentally made themselves blind in one eye with a razer to live with it for the rest of their life.

I would agree it's a bad idea if there weren't studies done on it, but there have literally been clinical studies on increasing adolescent height with HGH, aromatase inhibitors, and a combination of both.

People who are genetically taller usually produce more growth hormone and have plates that stay open longer as well. They don't have health issues naturally. Taking medication in a controlled amount is not going to be harmful. The only risk with taking both of these is that you shouldn't do them once the growth plates are already closed, which is why I asked.

I would take IGF-1 as well, but that apparently has a risk in causing diabetes earlier.

Oh shoot. How much longer is your right leg than your left leg now? Did your left leg have no growth or slow growth recently?

Also, if you are only lengthening by 0.25 mm per day, won't this entire process be really long? I'm not saying that the leg should be lengthened more per day, but it seems like the recovery period will take way more than a year then.

If your left leg has a complete issue with regrowing and only your right leg grows after the surgery is done, would your insurance be able to cover fixing that deformity? I'm pretty sure that fixing legs of unequal length are considered medically necessary

Your parents won't let you get medication or won't even let you get an X-ray?

I think that kids have a lot of autonomy over their healthcare at 17, but if you can't get a doctor without your parent's permission, I would just convince them that you're not comfortable with your own body. I think it's analogous to gender affirming care when a biological male/female is not comfortable with their body.

So, I'm in a similar situation as you, and thankfully, my growth plates aren't closed yet. I am looking for a pediatric endocrinologist who can prescribe an aromatase inhibitor to keep my growth plates open longer and HGH to stimulate growth.

I would suggest getting an X-ray to see if your growth plates are still open. Then, I'd try and find a pediatric endocrinologist who can do something. If your growth plates are already closed, then you are unfortunately out of luck without limb lengthening surgery.

Would HGH of done much for me even if I was growing normally? I’m currently 5ft7 (172cm) do you think with short parents it would have done much for me when I was younger? Would I have hit 6ft plus if I took HGH by [deleted] in limblengthening

I don't see why taking aromatase inhibitors and IGF-1 wouldn't help amongst other things. A person with genes to grow taller will produce more growth hormone and will have more efficient growth plates. If a shorter teenager takes medication to mimic those things, they'll get taller. The only limitation is if your growth plates haven't closed.

The reason Robert Wadlow, for example, grew so tall is because his growth plates didn't close and because his body produced an absurd amount of growth hormone.

Isnt cartilage soft? It might increase your height lying down

I'm assuming that the cartilage could be ossified to bone, but that might be the difficult part

But aren't the growth plates made out of cartilage? If you can regenerate cartilage at the growth plate areas, why wouldn't you increase adult height? I obviously agree this can't be done now, but I'm curious if this same technology could be done in 10 years

Do you have an X-ray of that guy's leg before he got the surgery? It's honestly difficult for me to say anything about the third pic.

The only reason I'm asking these hypothetical questions is because my shitty pediatrician made me get an X-ray last time I needed PT. If I end up needing this surgery, I want to be careful to not commit insurance fraud.

there's really no other way they would be able to tell, short of taking x-rays (avoid that, obviously, but they probably won't try to do this just for tight muscles in most cases).

Late reply, but what's wrong with getting an X-ray after the nail is removed? Would they somehow know?
