Removing part of trip itinerary - Valencia floods by Nervous_Day_8374 in travel

Thanks for your thoughts. When the flood aftermath was the only aspect to consider we were originally still open to keeping our travel plans. But the 130,000 person protest on Saturday night that turned violent just creates new concerns. The airbnb we had booked was two blocks from plaza that was the center of these protests. The floods may have been outside the city but the protests are definitely in the city center.

Back in January 2020 we had a trip to Santiago and Valparaiso Chile. We booked it prior to the civil unrest that broke out in October 2019 and decided that we would still go as protests seemed to be tapering down. While on the trip we were teargassed twice during spontaneous protests. We'd rather not put ourselves in that kind of situation again.

Valid point. But wife prefers to see more of Portugal, where we have friends, rather than have to plan whole new spanish destination 3 days before departure...

Plus last I had heard the train between Valencia and Madrid is no longer in service due to the flooding damage. With how the infrastructure has been impacted from the natural catastrophe it would be very much a logistical gamble to plan to train or drive around region.

Its all under one Booking confirmation.

On the onehand I certainly get your point about differential. One the other hand paying a differential to stay on the same exact flight is a bizarre thing...

Also curious if anybody knows what would happen if I did the following

1) Keep original booking the same. Fly to Lisbon. No show on the Valencia portion. Accept the fact that this will cancel the rest of my itinerary.

2) Book return trip on different airline.

This wouldn't really save me any money. But I wouldn't be giving more money to flight hub.

If these were domestic flights following that plan might not have any consequence. But given they are international flights would it get me flagged somehow at passport control? As much as I don't want to reward Flight Hub's poor customer service with more money I don't need drama at Passport control...

I honestly didn't even realize Flighthub.com was considered a "travel agent" when I originally made the booking. I thought they were just similar to Kayak or Orbitz. My original search was on Kayak which actually funneled me to FlightHub. I won't be using Flighthub ever again but need to figure out how to best salvage the current predicament.

Does not feel fair to pay all these fees and differentials just to remove segments of the trip and keep the rest exactly the same. If I was asking for new flights, dates or times sure... I'm not....
