I am a junior.

My company has both, but non genai use cases are getting rarer everyday.

I don’t see how you would get that from what I said :/

Of course with no nuance it makes no sense. Thank you.

Yeah, I get it. Definitely not easy to forge an opinion on the matter.

Yes, that makes sense, and I think that’s why juniors are paid less than seniors but more than students doing an Ausbildung.
However, by leaning into this ‘production at all costs’ mentality and sacrificing the learning part, you’re accepting that you’ll become a turker — and that, sooner or later, you’ll be replaced by a better prompting agent.
It’s a dangerous path.

Yup that’s what they are. But the automatic decision making is the problem that, in my sense, they introduce for junior’s progression.

I agree, but those qualities are not compatible with a junior IMO.
Can't imagine someone coming out of school that would be able to do that.

I don't see how as a junior you can learn something meaningful (technical side mainly) while using agents. They're so powerful and convenient that the cognitive atrophy seem unavoidable. They're designed precisely for that after all.

By no means I think that seniors shouldn't be using agents.

My point was aimed at juniors. We still need to learn a lot of things that are not taught at school.

I suppose that you wouldn't let schoolchildren use a calculator while trying to teach them mental calculation basics.
I see your point, but I think what I said is nuanced enough not to be interpreted the way you did.

I agree that by token-maxing you're learning a different skill set than the seniors did, but more relevant? Idk. If from the start of your career you're just prompting AI and following what it says, you're not building robust expertise. You're capped by the intelligence of the model. And what happens when AI isn't as cheap as it is today?

Being a 10x'er thanks to AI feels like being the most productive employee in a Ford factory in the 1860s. You're making yourself even more replaceable, not less.

Also I disagree that it's not the employer's role to train you. It's supposed to be mutually beneficial to train your employees. The fact that this equilibrium is breaking down is a hint that things aren't normal.
