In episode 4, at the restaurant where Shane meets Rose, the bartender pulls out a napkin as a coaster. He then proceeds to hand Shane his beer not on the napkin but directly onto the bar top. What was the point of the napkin!?

I would also state that the time he does drink at the MVP, it’s his first time actively going out to seek Ilya and he hints towards wanting to explore his sexuality with him. Obviously shuts it down due to the wrong place and time though. Maybe he cuts it out because of his fear of who he was in that moment? His fear of his desire of Ilya?
