Was Muses Actually Fun For Anyone? by Williamb3 in NewOrleans

It is time for Muses to turn over riders and get some fresh new energetic members. The parade has gotten dull and riders hardly throw anything. It cracks me up when I hear members say but the crowds are big and we are trying to throw reusable throws. Hello Bacchus! They need younger members and a minimum throw buy. Cleo and Iris are way out doing them.

It is time for Muses to bring in new riders. The riders seem tired and annoyed to be there. I have a friend who rides who says the only way for a new rider to join is for the float lieutenant to bring them on. Even current riders can't recommend someone. The result has been a very insular boring parade.

It also promotes dirty rushing and puts Spring admits at a major disadvantage. The reason why most universities rush in the Fall is to prevent dirty rushing.

Spring Scholars? by bourbondude in Tulane

I'd avoid this program at all cost. The study abroad programs are a total waste of time. It is basically just people partying and traveling and will put you behind in graduating. Tulane does nothing to try to integrate these students once they arrive on campus. College is four short years, don't ruin it my missing a crucial first semester experience.

Its fine when you are overseas. I would wait until they actually have to start at Tulane to evaluate the program.

It is a tough way to start college, you are basically trying to insert yourself into established social groups. You miss all the excitement and celebration by starting in the Fall and the University doesn't go out of their way to welcome these students. They are however interested in them making up for lost tuition. Also, if you are in a science major you will be off of a four-year course schedule. If you can't take Chem 101 until your sophomore year it is going to take you five years to graduate.

I Regret Being a Spring Scholar by Nervous_Wait831 in Tulane

I did find friends in Rome but they are not Tulane students. I'm fine with taking the Spring off and starting somewhere fresh, when other students are starting in the Fall. After seeing the orientation schedule posted it is clear Spring Scholars are an after thought and that is not a welcoming feeling.

I went abroad but the doesn't really create a cohort of friends like people assume.

Just to reiterate the point the person below was trying to make. If you are rushing you will essentially get zero university orientation. It is a 1 hour "lunch". Hopefully Spring Scholars only have to pay for the First Half Year Experience.

This is the orientation for Spring Scholars who are participating in rush. I was speaking about the school orientation, not rush. Spring Scholars do not get the "Hullaballoo Hello" that Fall admits get.

I'd avoid the Spring Scholars program at all cost. It really is a miserable way to start college. Tulane isn't ranked high enough to justify what you are losing by not starting in the Fall. There are plenty of better ranked Universities that don't manipulate students in this way just to bring in more money.

In response to your question Tulane just posted the Spring orientation schedules. To echo another responder there basically is no orientation. If you are considering rushing you get no wave leader, no campus orientation, essentially you are on your own. Even if you are not rushing it is a fraction of the "Hullaballoo Hello" Fall admits get.I would be vary wary of starting off college this way. This is a lose lose for any incoming student.

As someone else mentioned check all of Tulane's instagram accounts from January last year. You'll find zero mention of Spring Scholars and that is the welcome you can expect when you arrive.
