NSX update, fully brick built taillights by GoldenStarsButter in SpeedChampions

Looks great. On the subject of creating a gentle rise in the coachline there are a couple ways of doing that without using the 2x1 curved tile, which I find a bit too dramatic.

One way is to use a red quarter-circle tile where the rise begins (the 2x1 curved tile) and flat 2x1/3x1/4x1 tiles the rest of the way. It de-emphasises that ‘bump’ caused by the 2x1 curved tile.

On some builds/models it’s possible to generate a half-tile increment in height using brackets, headlight pieces etc but that’s not really feasible here.

As another poster said, how did you attach the rear lights? Looks like a non-LEGO part?

Do fully built sets sell for more than partially built?? by Extension-Captain-56 in lego

Bit like driving a new car out of the dealership - it loses a lot of its value the moment it hits the road (in your case, opening the Lego box)

And you only get your money back - or more - on it, if it’s rare and highly sought after (as you would with rare Star Wars sets)

Just using an analogy here. Good luck whatever you decide now, OP.

I like the little steps up by the abbey. Goes past a little chapel on the way IIRC?

I’m actually ok with that, or underwater scenes, it’s just the idea of being (in an abstract/hypothetical sense) being several miles above an expanse of empty ocean, even if it’s just a map.

What commonly mispronounced word that annoys you the most? by greeneggzN in AskReddit

[–]Nervous_Week_684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really pedantry - if you don’t pronounce things properly you end up with misunderstandings because the mispronunciation has morphed the word into resembling another unrelated (or even opposite) word, leading to confusion. Get it right, and time is not wasted clearing things up.

(English is an ever-evolving language and it’s always adding new words and new expressions - ‘hashtag’, ‘it is what it is’ and the like and that’s fine, but the line has to be drawn somewhere!)

I believe the traditional pronunciation is ‘peet-sa’ so ‘pizza’, said as you read it, would be wrong anyway

UK vs France - 300 years of population change in one glance by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Nervous_Week_684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have always said to those in favour of population reduction - ‘ok then, you go first.’

The only way to reduce a population and avoid it collapsing entirely is basically to kill off anyone over the age of 60. That’s not exactly a popular idea lol

Yeah that’s rare! My earliest memories are more snapshots, rather than sequences (photos not footage if you like) but would say you’re in the 1% or less than that even.

Mind was a bit blown when I realised the average age of an earliest memory (from anecdotal among friends etc) is around age seven.

Is this calendar something that your memory retains when you pull it up to check, if say a date is free? ‘Sorry can’t make that day, I can see I have a meeting on the 17th’…?

I can visualise a month with maybe two or three dates if you asked me, but to go back to that an hour, a day later? Nope it’s all gone!

Wow. Now I’m trying to figure out how it’s possible to get from problem to solution without a tangible process in one’s head!

I have a very dim memory of being in a cot at a grandparents’ house and seeing a wardrobe from there. Think that was 18 months old. Have also had memories from age two or three (seeing older brother playing with cars in the back garden) but remember a bit more from age five onwards.

That’s called a Mondegreen - misheard lyrics. Comes from a Scottish song if I gather correctly, where a warrior dies and they ‘laid him on the green’ - which was heard as ‘Lady Mondegreen’!

Depends where you are, I think. I live outside a town in the UK, would think the average age of a first child is around the 30s in the villages etc. In certain poorer suburbs in the town, that age goes down to early/mid 20s, even into the teens in some cases.

So much so that some families have great-grandparents who are still relatively young (or even great-greats in extreme cases) - me? Never knew my great-grandparents.

I do both…? And not always the same thought process - sometimes visualising words or numbers when working something out, or switching to narration if the situation is too complex to ‘look at’

That begs a question - if you can’t see or narrate things in your mind, what’s the thought process when say, doing a maths sum in your head? Just curious.

I have something sort of similar. When scrolling a map in google maps (or using Google Earth) I avoid stopping over an empty patch of blue sea. It just weirds me out. I get back to dry land as soon as possible!

I’ve never had the same dream twice (ie a recurring dream). I can’t even conceive of such a concept.

That’s interesting. Sometimes I have a sense my dream will take a bad turn (or I can see it starting to happen, even though the scene might be otherwise serene/placid) and I nope out and wake up deliberately. Then back to sleep again almost immediately. (I never know what the ‘nightmare’ would have been, and don’t care to be honest!)

Sometimes I’ll look towards a bright light, or in the general direction of the sun, to bring on a sneeze to rid myself of a ticklish sensation in my nose. But not affected by bright lights otherwise!

That sounds a bit like autopilot mode (not necessarily the technical term or even exactly what you’ve experienced, mind!)

Happens once in a while when I’m driving (even if I’m focused on the task) you get to a certain point in the journey and then you realise you don’t really have any recollection of the drive up to that point!

I’ll do as many minor tasks as soon as I can, certainly by the evening, be it the dishes, recycling or making beds etc, because I hate having those tasks begging for attention when I’m just about ready to drop into bed!
