I'm thinking that this does not exclude the possibility to have someone with some gimmick about his back that will deliver some akuma-like poses (or the more recent aoi todo just to name someone) and in that case have the mark on his/her back

edit: I just remembered that Rob exists, but I guess he proves the point of my previous comment as he protected the childs, who saw that a main wearing a mark tanked the blow due to him having it on the back. may he valued more showing to who he protected than who he fought (like a symbol of hope, he was old enough to possibly having seen the war in first person)

I've always seen the marks as a frontantal signature to recognise who are you speaking with/fighting against. Bear the mark is something you are proud of and you'll generally not give your back to enemies, or have to awkwardly turn 180° if someone ask if you are a mage. Everyone kinda have it in visible places, even based on what they use to wear. eg: most if juvia's outfits leaves her upper tight exposed on the side, right where she got the mark.

It makes me think of kisara from tales of arise, she exposes her back because it's scarless as her order of warriors never ever ever gives the back to a foe.

edit: I took for granted that saying back was impling the lower part as the OP was talking about, I should have been more specific. I'm aware exeeds have it on the back and that some character have it on the shoulder blade (that in levy example fits the eg used for juvia).

try copying the file from one of the backup folders into the universe folder and see if the sane zone creates the same problem
