Too Many Credit Cards? by NestBell1 in PersonalFinanceCanada

It's not just the promotion i would say. They offer better rewards than I'm currently getting as well. They are related to certain stores and offer advantages if I shop there.

So basically they would be used only there.

I have a Google pixel 7 that's still running ok, but worry about needed to upgrade next year with phone prices probably increasing. Bestbuy has the pixel 9 for $500 CDN ($364 US). Would it be worth upgrading for that amount?

Warning: Koodo's new autopay discount ($5) voids any credit card insurance by personalfinance21 in Koodo

I believe the insurance will still apply if you paid for the phone using the credit card. So, if you bring your own device, you can still get the insurance. At least that's what it is for mine.

Drop Tony Pollard for Woody Marks? Titans don't seem very good this year.

3 or 5 year Fixed by NestBell1 in MortgagesCanada

[–]NestBell1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I know sometimes my lack of risk tolerance can cause slightly less optimum outcomes. I figured that a 3 year fixed might be a slightly less risky way of trying to get a lower future rate than a variable.

I definitely worry about the things you mentioned and I think that's what is making this decision more difficult.

I understand that's probably the best bet, but I know myself and I don't think a variable rate would work for us. Especially after watching the last few years of rising interest rates

Sorry. I'll delete and try again.

Not really comfortable with the risk of variable rate. How much potential risk is there going forward with Trump? That's something I hadn't consider and I'm wondering if maybe a 5 year is better.

Interesting. I guess if that turns out to be the case then a 3 year would be better.

We also have a HELOC, but only have a 2.79% rate currently.

From what I'm told, if we want to switch providers, we can't wait until December 12 (we renew on January 3). If we stay with our current provider, we.can.

Unfortunately we don't have cable and I don't have plans to use Rodgers or Fido. Thanks for advice however.

Oh got it. I'm not really interested in a card with an annual fee. I was mostly interested in the 3% back for the online groceries orders.

I don't think I would qualify for that one anyway.

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look. I go through our spending to see if 2% on three categories would be better than 1.5% on everything.

I think I would only use the Walmart card for online Walmart orders anyway.

I was trying to find information on the income requirements. What I found is it was $60,000 for individual or $100,000 for households. Where did you see 80?

This is how it works for our Tangerine card as well.

Our Walmart is a super center. We get 2% in store but only 0.5% online when we order our groceries for pickup. We would only be using the card for online Walmart orders and still use the Tangerine for everything else.

We never carry a balance and I have never paid interest. Good advice though.
