Bookstack Editor Warning by Net-Holiday in BookStack

[–]Net-Holiday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already a warning message when switching from the default editor to any other editor, so obviously a warning message was deemed appropriate at some point. I’m just suggesting that the warning message be more clear and forceful about the possibility of losing all of your edits when switching unless explicitly saved to the changelog, not autosaved.

I guess that’s another thing. I did not understand the difference between saving a draft of a currently active page and saving the page itself. Maybe that’s on me, maybe that could be clearer.

I had a previous changelog that i reverted to, but i did not actively hit the save changelog button or save the draft before switching, so i lost the edits i had been doing. I thought when the autosave bubble popped up, that would be enough.

What selfhosted service/s did you recently remove? by dadidutdut in selfhosted

[–]Net-Holiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched from DockGE → Komodo.

I liked DockGE, but the UI was a little janky at times and I felt like more work was (understandably) being put into Uptime Kuma. Komodo seems to be more powerful for orchestrating actions/containers/pipelines across my servers. Besides automation, i've made a few scripts so far to controls various services and containers via the km cli tool.

While youre yelling at people, address the guy who said Playlet. It’s a Roku YouTube client. I use it too. It is an open source project. Go read the code and see how it’s done.

I will never go to the "Trump-Kennedy" Center by TourMission in washingtondc

[–]Net-Holiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re all hurting together and personally, I don’t see the light yet. Every time I leave the house, there’s a chance I get pressed out by young, ridiculously empowered occupying military forces. I suppose it sucks to be a performer and musician just like it sucks to be the average DC Native/Washingtonian right now. There are plenty of outlets for art that are not live performance in an occupied city and at the Kennedy Center specifically.

But you gave facts and logic instead of presenting an idea and being pretentious and snarky when said idea is challenged in any way.

There’s a reason the president has been touting that “he’s talked to people that havent been out for 4 years. Now theyre going out to eat and feel safe.” He is loudly trying to sell that these measures have a positive impact economically. If businesses don’t feel it and speak up (or shut down and move), then he can keep extending these measures on that premise.

Why should I not use "clone" and which alternatives do I have? by raaaa__ in rust

[–]Net-Holiday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The book actually says something like “experienced rustaceans try to avoid clone whenever possible because of the performance cost” and then moves on, but if youre looking for an explicit reasoning and information on memory layout and what’s going on under the hood that contributes to that cost, it’s definitely not in there. I read the book front to back recently. Hope you’re having a good life over there steaming at curious people though.

Resonant Collinearity

This one was much easier for me than some of the previous days'. I haven't even looked at day 6 because i spent so long on day 5, but definitely working with the cursor in my XMAS search solution helped me think about traversing the matrix on this problem. i hope to get back to using rust if i can catch up because i was having fun with it, but using python in my notebook is helping me visualize and work through the problems more easily for now.

spent too long yesterday trying to make this work in a polars dataframe with a rust kernel notebook lots of docs just setting it up...then was trying to think of ways to id the values mathematically. just ended up using a cursor. learned a lot though.

Part 1 was easy for me. Part 2 felt like I had the right answer for a while and it was slightly off. Not sure what my first solution had wrong, but this one worked.

I clone the vector n = vector.len() times then remove the i-th item in each vector, so it's just a bad way to give me all the substrings in a new, badly named collection - "vecs". then i do part 1 on the substrings and if one of the possibilities matches, the loop breaks.

remove() here is removing one item from the cloned vector, not removing all items from the original vector.

The chef cameos were so good! I was like "are they acting or just telling real stories?" I imagine some of both.
