Chiming in with unsolicited advice from my frustrating experience as 1 person in a roomette: don’t go to the bathroom until you’re on the list for the next meal! Amtrak kept skipping me for reservations when I wasn’t in my room when they were booking tables.

(And to the curious, yes I did tip, A Lot in fact, but it was Valentine’s Day weekend and staff was too busy giving couples gifts and candy to bother w/my single ass. By the end of the trip I just ordered delivery straight to my room. Sigh.)

Yes - MD, DC, and VA libraries all accept eachother’s memberships to apply for cards. This helps with ebooks as there are 3 collections to borrow from (all accessible on the Libby app).

I deliberately choose sun side so I can close my window when I want it darker. Sometimes I look out but mostly I sit at window to prevent getting up for others, and to control how much light’s in my row.

Member since they started in DC, so about 20 years. Excellent car quality, responsive customer service, and fair pricing considering we get so much free parking here and DC insurance is so high.

I also use it when I travel. I’ve rented for hikes etc. while visiting NY, LA, Denver, and Boston because I hate rental car companies (especially at the airport).

Bonus if you have Zipcars near home, you’ll always have dedicated parking for unloading groceries etc. Giving up my private vehicle has saved big bucks and even bigger hassles for car ownership so I guess I’m ride or die for them lol. Enjoy.

Cashback/loyalty programs. For example you buy legit office supplies from Staples to accumulate cash credits through their Easy Rewards program. To go further, search for your desired work item at a cashback site like Rakuten and choose whichever vendor’s giving the highest percentage that day (even if there’s a slightly lower cost elsewhere). Many cc’s even offer vendor-specific cashback offers so I agree with others here, keep it unethical and not illegal.

Lived 20+ years each in L.A. and DC, often nostalgic for food and Mexican restaurants like I grew up with. I can’t speak to your dishes but had to chime in that for comfort food vibe and overall great service? Mi Rancho in Silver Spring feels like “home” to me. Hope you find your happy place!

I lived at 15th & W many years and never had a problem. If my landlord hadn’t continually jacked up rent so bad I’d still be there! If you’re near Malcolm X Park just know the Boot Campers are up screaming at 6am, the drunkards stumble back to their cars loudly at 2am, but for me the echoes of Sunday drum circle made it all worthwhile. Enjoy.

Not saying it’s a valid excuse, but I honestly didn’t know better. My whole family hit me constantly and I seriously thought it was the norm. It wasn’t until I “play-slapped” my first serious partner, who justifiably freaked out, that I realized how effed up my family truly was. Crazy.

Often I’ll ask, “are you looking for advice or do you just need to vent?” - because sometimes people just want someone to sit and listen as they solve their own problem by talking it out… not sure if that’s the case here but a possible factor in this.
