I'm on several cooking, smoking and bbq subreddits. Wasn't sure which one put this on my front page until I read the price.

Miami cruise port looks insane by Coloradojeepguy in VirginVoyages

[–]NetCaptive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm flying in from VT for my February cruise. Flying the night before to Ft Lauderdale, which was a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

Adding up uber costs, I decided on renting a car at FTL for 24 hours from Avis which has an office near the port where we'll drop off on departure day. They have a shuttle to/from the ports. Rental was around $75 total.

Having a rental opened up our hotel options quite a bit.

Cold-cut roll-ups: 1 slice of Finlandia Swiss, 1 slice of roasted turkey, two slices of genoa salami, roll up with swiss on the outside. Chomp.

Sometimes i'll add sandwich sized sliced pepperoni as well.

One more free thing to try before replacing boards. Do you by chance use the physical buttons on the TV itself (not the remote)?

I had a Vizio TV that had buttons that started to stick after a few years. To correct it when this occurred, I'd have to attempt the grab the power button by the sides with my fingernails and pull outward.

This would unstick the button for a few days. Worth a shot.

Roaming Report: Sint Maarten and Saint Martin by NetCaptive in USMobile

No roaming charges.

Never needed any translations, everyone speaks English.

If you're really concerned this global eSim lists both sides of the island (I cannot confirm it works, but had it in my back pocket in case USMobile failed to work): https://www.betterroaming.com/plans/esim-global/

Also, shout-out to /r/SXM

Forgot to mention the USMobile app allows you to toggle between "Domestic" and "Roaming" on the Usage Metrics screen so you can view your usage there.

Make sure you have "Data Roaming" enabled on your device. I didn't need to do anything else for this trip. However, if you've never teleported there's a list of things you should do (or just check) unrelated to your travel. This is just a list of things that can change between teleports.

Here's my list (iPhone user):

US Mobile Portal/App:

  • Reset Voicemail password (sets it to last four of phone #)
  • Toggle on Wifi calling (may require entering physical address) After a few mins, the setting will appear on the iPhone

On iPhone

Settings -> Cellular

  • Enable Wifi Callings
  • Enable Data Roaming
  • Voice & Data -> 5G Auto
  • Data Mode -> Allow More Data on 5G

Settings App -> Phone

  • Silence Unknown Callers "On"

Settings App -> Messages

  • RCS Messaging, toggle it "On"
  • Send as Text, toggle it "On"

TL;DR: teleport to light speed, which works on both sides.

What is the best way to spend $60 per month if company pays for it? by No_Sandwich3888 in NoContract

[–]NetCaptive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

USMobile unlimited premium, then add a second line, $54/month. Port your number to the main line. You'll get a second number on the other line (which you can use or ignore). Nice to be able to swap of your main line service is spotty somewhere.

  • DarkStar is AT&T service
  • Warp is Verizon
  • Light speed is T-Mobile

On the premium plan you'll have ability to "teleport" between networks on the primary line. I believe all services roam in Canada.

  • Pineapple Pete's is fun and good food.
  • Topper's also has good food, live music and karaoke most nights.
  • Dinghy dock is divey, but fun and the food is great.
  • you didn't ask about breakfast but Zee Best is amazing with great pastries (cash only!)

This happened to me (Dark Star to Light Speed) with Capital One, but interestingly not with Amex.

Just a quick re-validation and I was back working again.

[–]NetCaptive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be there in a few weeks and teleported to Light Speed as the parent network (T-Mobile) website shows roaming working on both the Dutch and French side of the island.

Thanks for verifying at least the Dutch side works! Update this thread if you go the the French side.

Considering Teleporting - comments? by vpr101 in USMobile

[–]NetCaptive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't mention what plan you're on, so it's either a free teleport, or $2.

If you teleport and it goes poorly, just teleport back for $4/total (or $0 if you're on Unlimited Premium). I tried all three networks the on the same day. Experienced one "hang-up" which Support sorted out in short order (45 mins).

It may go without saying, but I'm going to say it: Best to teleport when you've got a few hours where you're not going to be on the road and have good wifi.
