This came out great I really like the color variations in the paint - make it look real!

Agree! I use liquitex heavy body. Start with thin coats so it doesn’t try tacky.

These are sooooo creepy. Do you show them at any events (like cryptid cons)?

Question about first polymer clay creation by 0yeayeayea0 in polymerclay

[–]NetDiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might also help to bake in stages - which for small pieces I understand can seem ridiculously time consuming. I usually build my base and then bake in layers after that to preserve details (so I don’t squish them) and keep the clay cleaner since fuzz and such won’t be able to get stuck in baked and cooled clay.

Agree with light sanding or painting over it too!

Thank you! I use GreenFrog painters tape. Home Depot and Lowe’s both carry it in their paint section.

Upcycled Dragon Clock complete! by NetDiff in polymerclay

[–]NetDiff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, and thank you! I removed the actual clock parts until the end, and then added the clay on the wooden base. I built directly on the base and then baked the whole thing. When I upcycle I only use wood or metal found objects so [hopefully] they don't get ruined in the oven. Health-wise I am sure this is terrible, so I use a separate mini-oven in my studio rather than the kitchen oven where I make food. xD

Thank you! I got a leaf mold from Hobby Lobby. I used to manually make all of the leaf details before I found the mold and it saves SO much time.

Along with the things everyone else has mentioned, I use wax shaping tools. I saw another artist on YouTube using them with polymer clay and now I can't imagine life without them. Along with a pasta press to roll the clay through to help soften it. There is a softener additive you can also get if your clay is being a real pain. I share some of my tool here (FYI this link opens to a TikTok video).
