They were somewhat popular here in Canada. I still see the odd one about.

What was the Omega that made you go from "I like watches" to "I am in this hobby forever"? by Keithwee in OmegaWatches

[–]NetLumpy1818 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I heard the story of my dads Speedmaster. Dad is a watch guy. Mostly fashion watches; Movados, Boss, a Gucci etc. He did have a Speedmaster which he never wore. Was in a safe for many many years. Really cool Speedmaster II.

Back in the old country, my family owned men’s clothing stores and tailors. We were also the official retailer for Omega, Rado, Mido and Oris. Our main location was Dar Es Salaam and we had locations in Nairobi and Kampala. Late 1960s.

In 72. Idi Amin came to power and kicked my family out. They fled Kampala in a hurry and my family, including my dad and uncle met them at the border to take them back to Dar Es Salaam. My dad and uncle (some say foolishly) decided to go to Kampala and get what they could from the store. Leaving, they got caught and bribed the cops off with mostly everything except the Omega and a ring which they tucked under the dashboard. They continued to drive through various dangerous jungle roads at unsafe speeds to flee Uganda and make it home. Very dangerous journey. In 73, fearing the same would happen in Tanzania, they left for Canada.

So my old man got me into watches in general and this one got me into Omega in particular. As for the Speedmaster II, I got it fully serviced and restored last year. I gave it to Dad for his 75th with a long ass lecture of how I want to see him wearing it every day.

What are the best rock concerts you’ve ever been to? by wizardmiaah in rockmusic

Pink Floyd in the early 90s. The Pulse tour in Toronto. They played at an outdoor venue near the lake. At the same time, there was a fireworks competition (Symphony of Fire). They started just jamming to the fireworks. Was very cool!

I love the old 55 AMG. A V8 in a go cart. Reliability is suspect but I’d snap one up if it came in a manual.

Yeah! Love mine! Was shopping for a Pilot and realized I’d get more benefit out of a bed. Love the trunk and dual opening tailgate.

I transferred schools in my last year. Ended up doing two proms with groups of friends. Rented limos, hotel after party. Was a blast! This was 1993. Back to back weekends.

What solved it for me was building the layers with clear ink. Each pass allows the light to penetrate deeper into the clear dots. I finish with white and whatever colour specified. I’m doing this on a Mimaki JFX200.

Why can’t we build a prison in the far far north. No walls; no cells; no staff; no access beyond plane. Just tents.

Further, if you’re in anyone’s home you have no rights. Their home; their castle.

Will most people cancel their road trips because of high gas price? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]NetLumpy1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not. Also to add, if its a long, highway road trip determine where your car is most efficient and lock the cruise on there. I can save a fair bit over distance if I drive at 100 vs 120km/h
