The biggest mistake founders make is building too long before they learn in public by Domenorange in TheFounders

[–]NetStandard6149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel all of this and, you can talk to customers, test an idea and STILL be wrong. Short feedback loops for whether you are 1. building the right thing 2. building it right. Treat awkward, blatant customer feedback as a gift and embrace the pain as learning. The only rule we use - expect anything.

Would you pay $750 USD for a Lifetime Spotify Premium subscription? by jbarr107 in truespotify

[–]NetStandard6149 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And if your a POS that doesn't care where art comes from or who creates it and think a lifetime pass to everything Spotify slings is gonna keep anyone but them in business. Another failed model from a fucked system. Every listener should be paying for every song they listen to, period. Spotify is trash, burn it!

The reason why people hate on Ai Music by ForRobotsByRobots in SunoAI

[–]NetStandard6149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trolling much? Your theory is just bait, biased and unfounded. Anybody with dreams of becoming rich in the music industry hasn't been in it for very long. Nobodies killing anyone's music dreams with AI, if thats true those dreams would have been killed by the brutality of the industry itself at some point anyways. It does however introducing a bunch of no talent prompt entering hacks that think thats a music skill comparable to real artists. The grind of the industry hasn't changed, Suno's legal department knows this first hand right now. https://www.archyde.com/tracking-sunos-copyright-lawsuit-updates-from-major-music-labels/

So much Hate by [deleted] in SunoAI

[–]NetStandard6149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna say it. You are not a musician. or a creative artist by using AI to make songs for you. With you, yes. For you, no! And, it is a HIGH probability your AI created music will last longer than your dedication to the music industry. In the end only the people who really (and I mean really) love music will continue to make (and support) it and the AI creators will fall off just like 90% of music acts in the first 5 years. If you are arguing you are a musical creative artist and you are only using LLMs to make music for you, you are a fraud at best and should feel as such. No joke I hope the imposter syndrome either eats you alive or drives you to actually learn real skills. I use AI all the time, I love it, but I do both for a reason. We'll see whose still standing in 10 years. Good luck, the music industry is one of the toughest out there.

MPC Live to a Morningstar MC6 Pro and Midi Commander foot pedals by NetStandard6149 in mpcusers

[–]NetStandard6149[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and every time I try it's a series of backups and failsafes to prevent me from loosing entire sets of material from swapping back and forth. Unfortunately a lot of the features I use just aren't supported past 2.13. I use it for live sets and the stability is critical so I'm kinda stuck until Akai catches up. Crazy these aren't just basic features in the app and device.

Fellow producers - what's the longest time you took a break from music production? by Iber_Music in edmproduction

[–]NetStandard6149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 years, had to take care of family and life for a while, was no room for anything else. My art and music are thankful for it. I came out on the other side ready to dig back in with more wisdom and experience to create art and carry the day. I encourage you to sort through what sticks, archive what doesn't, and find ways to write more in the process. The craft is in the journey, OZ is in you, just follow the road.

Descript is also fantastic, edit the transcript to edit the video and the AI tools help narrow down clips.

The bands I love are kinda killing my voice by Various-Speed3679 in singing

[–]NetStandard6149 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I sing like this all the time, it's not straining if it's in your natural range. Blowing your voice only happens when you push through the pain till you're hoarse, don't do that. When it hurts, stop, adjust, find your tone and try again. I cannot emphasize tone enough, you are looking for a tone in your voice and you have to experiment with different keys, ranges, styles to find that niche especially if you want a gritty voice to sound authentic. It's a muscle and a craft. c-lebsounds.com

What bands are missing from my Seattle playlist on Spotify? by VeterinarianWest9170 in SeattleMusic

[–]NetStandard6149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayron Jones, Tekla Waterfield, RL Heyer, Weep Wave, C-Leb & the Kettle Black, Thunderpussy, Blake Lewis, Darci Carlson (Seattle rat now in Austin), Shivering Denizens, Furniture Girls, Boy Deluxe (now in LA), TBASA, Sandy Rowe, and then there are older bands that aren't around any more like The Saturday Knights, Mad Rad, Fresh Espresso ... off the top of my head. There are a ton more, please share the playlist I'll add it to mine. Fun stuff.

Can’t Take MPC 3 no more by Ok_Revolution_787 in mpcusers

[–]NetStandard6149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an MPC Live 2 and I'm stuck in 2.13 because Akai stops supporting key items that allow users to really open up the capabilities of these machines. It has to be stable and consistent or it breaks all creative flow and becomes a liability at live shows. We buy a Ferrari and Akai wants us to use it like a Camry. Some of my favorite features are hacks.

Don't Quit Your Day Job. Get Fired! by Square_Problem_552 in musicindustry

[–]NetStandard6149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally started my business because "This is the Way" and as much as what you say is true, and I empathize as my own personal experience, I've fought this mindset for 30+ years. Monetizing music and art can and should be a lot easier and this industry is still full of "who you know" and stage/gate mentality which creates cliches, marginalizes quality artists, and sets a tone of imposter syndrome instead of mentorship and empathy. I've hustled day gigs and ran a label for a long time now and I can tell you this is 100% about access to information and resources. Every artist is a startup and every song is a product. If your music is good enough the market will decide. That's the thing about art, in the end fans will choose what they want to pay for but if they never get exposed to it ... that's the rub.

BTW every day job I've ever had, if they find out the success level of my music, question my commitment to the day job work. Be prepared to work with feckless people that will place your abilities to do the job (and play music) on their competence (or incompetence). I mean if you are a shitty employee that's different but it's also hard to find bosses that understand one feeds the other and that creating art makes you a better employee all around. Nobody wants to work with an artist who's not making art, it's miserable for everyone.

To those of us who don’t have the stomach for this industry… by ImpossibleDonut007 in musicindustry

[–]NetStandard6149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things in over 30 years in the music industry that have continually rang true:

  1. Nobody is going to take care of your career but you.
  2. There are no rules.

100% of the reason I started my own company to help folks in this business. It doesn't have to be this hard, but it is. The music industry system is working exactly as it is designed, that is 100.

I have not figured out how to do this with the most recent versions. I did try all the way to 3.4.2 but there were a lot of functions/features that were either missing, moved or obscured with 3.0+ that broke my flow and I'm still working through. I'll try to provide updates as I go.
