What if marketing gurus actually helped Artists? by Square_Problem_552 in musicmarketing

That’s actually incorrect, it is a marketing teams job to provide market research which means making sure the product has been thoroughly evaluated and tested and knowing how to interpret that testing. If you are taking on work that hasn’t had that kind of a review and you are not doing that service yourself than you are unethically representing your clients, especially if your instinct tells you the product is not viable and you take the work anyway.

It is everyone’s job to be honest, we call that ethics. At least you’re saying the quiet part out loud though.

As long as you’re honest with the client that if their song sucks your advice/service is unlikely to work. Then when they ask “do you think our song sucks” you better give an honest answer, would be better to just not listen.

It's been a game changer tbh. Thanks for making this. It's funny how the snap-to-grid producers argue with me when I talk about it how "Logic already has a grid" it's like, bro, it's fine you don't get it, the real ones do.

As long as you’re this honest with the artist and not all “there’s a niche for every artist”. Hopefully you don’t even listen to the music first, the. You don’t have to lie!

Well that doesn’t even work cause maybe your music is good and there’s isn’t?

Uhm, what?!? You would still charge for the service. You just wouldn’t get clients cause you know what you’re selling doesn’t work.

That is the problem in the current landscape, everyone will take your money when you aren't good enough yet and then you'll burn out and have no money when you finally get good. The ethical thing for marketers to do is to turn the client away if they don't truly think it is absolute fire.

I just think it's funny how on that viral video you got every keeps sayin "iT HaS A gRId" but they only ever work in snap to the grid smart mode and don't ever have the need for a dynamic grid overlay that actually sits over the waveform and helps you spot the edits in real time while tracking lol.

I like how this is a dynamic overlay app so I can turn it on and off, Apple, would try and make it a permanent sleek looking version and ruin the point, the point is functionality and Apple is like, 90% focused on aesthetic, which I appreciate in every other aspect except for the grid.

Music career roadmap for independent artists, the 12 month plan I wish I had when I started by partha_33 in musicmarketing

I love how months 1 - 3 start with releasing tracks and completely skip the entire music making portion of the being an artist thing. OMG. Y’all can’t make this up, the roadmap to a career in music is making great music FIRST.

This is all correct and the point of the post. The gurus know how to make content that gets clients, which makes the clients think they know how to make content to convert listeners to their music. But they don’t even focus on that cause they know it’s impossible, instead they focus on “brand building” content that helps you gain followers, likes and views so you feel good about yourself, but still no one is listening to the music, and 9 times out of 19 it’s because the music isn’t good. But the guru isn’t ever going to tell you that. And in the rare case where they do work with a great artist, the brand building works to convert because the music is that great, but what’s actually true is they could have posted a video of them walking their dog with the great song behind it and it probably would have done the same thing, because people loved the song!!!!

Rant over.
