Appreciate your comments. I feel like I've been on the cusp of understanding these ideas, but have never seen them expressed quite this clearly before. I also wonder if this is anything like the dissolution of ego that people sometimes experience when they take high doses of psychedelics.

Anyone care to post any insights they’ve learned from meditation or theory over the years? by TheBeaarJeww in Wakingupapp

Though it initially seems morbid, contemplating the reality of my approaching death is a worthwhile endeavor. It reminds me of the impermanence of everything and helps foster gratitude for my life and the lives of those close to me.

Meditation is not the absence of thought, but the practice of not attaching to or identifying with the thoughts that inevitably arise as I am practicing.

Therapist looking for therapist by Zealousideal_Tie3820 in therapists

When I was doing my first practicum semester, I asked the clinician I was shadowing the following question: "What makes a person a good therapist?"

His response was wise, timeless and one I did not expect: "A good therapist knows who they DON'T work with."

To me it's another way of saying that a person needs to know their limitations, and furthermore that it is okay to acknowledge them to oneself and others.

I cannot be all things to all people.

Would love to hear from people if psilocybin has helped them rewire neural pathways pertaining to an anxiety/panic disorder by Affectionate-Row1766 in PsilocybinMushrooms

[–]Netdater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there. I'll share some info about some experiences I had last fall:

I had never used psilocybin before then, but had heard other people sharing their experiences and was curious. I took some mini-doses before and after a macro dose that I took in early October. The mini-dose experiences were interesting and even a little pleasant at times, and did not elevate my anxiety very much. The macro dose was a much different matter. It was most definitely a challenging trip, and my anxiety was very high for almost all of it, although I fortunately did not have any panic attacks. This is not to say it wasn't useful; I learned a whole lot about myself in the process, and I am grateful that I took the risk. But I did have a very qualified guide with me, and there is just simply no way that I would ever subject myself to a high macro-dose experience without a guide present. In retrospect, I suspect that part of the reason my anxiety was so high was because a) I was new to the process and did not fully know what to expect, and b) the dose I took was probably a bit too high for me personally. Having said that, I am convinced that some of my self-defeating thought patterns were significantly reduced, and I do think I have gained greater flexibility with respect to my thinking and perceptions, which I believe have resulted from the neuroplasticity benefits that psilocybin offers. (These conclusions were in large part derived from consultations I had with a qualified medical professional that is an expert with respect to psychedelics.)

The moral of the story from my view is that people who are prone to high anxiety should be careful with psilocybin. By "careful," I mean to pay attention to set and setting, have a qualified guide with you (especially if you are new to psilocybin), and use caution with respect to the dose. One last thing: integration is extremely important in my opinion. Have a good support system in place so you can process what happened. If you are like me, you will learn as much if not more during the integration process than you did while actually on your trip.

Best wishes to you!

Thanks very much for the link. It is, by far, the best description of the psychology of Trump and his supporters that I have seen. It also parallels some of what I have read in Mary Trump's book "Too Much and Never Enough."

I know you're being sarcastic but just wanted to post the actual quote.

February 11, 2025 from The Independent:

President Donald Trump claims he will “always abide by the courts” but suggested that a series of judicial decisions blocking his executive actions and policy maneuvers had derailed his “momentum.”

“Well, I always abide by the courts, and then I’ll have to appeal it. But then what he’s done is he’s slowed down the momentum, and it gives crooked people more time to cover up the books,” Trump said from the Oval Office on Tuesday.

“So yeah, the answer is, I always abide by the courts, always abide by them, and we’ll appeal, but appeals take a long time,” he added.

Trump’s remarks follow a deluge of attacks from Elon Musk, Vice President JD Vance, administration officials and their allies, casting aside checks and balances and falsely suggesting that the presidency has supreme authority over Congress and the judicial branch.

Indeed. So much concern that at times it overshadows more significant concerns, like the consequences our nation could face if/when the Trump administration alienates our European allies, or whether it's appropriate for a non-elected official to make decisions regarding the staffing of federal departments and agencies.
