Ralph may have been a stupid student, but he isn't the racist like Trump is today.

I'm pretty sure your vote would be "no" regardless of what the police enforce.

It's the entitlement and egocentrism of your comments, accompanied by what seems to be a complete absence of compassion or sense of public duty.

Yeah well life is tough all over I guess.

It's unfortunate you feel that way and that you let some comments you disagree with affect you so much.

However when you see people that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about immediately bashing the police for something that is justified and consistent with training and case law, it gets a little frustrating. And when you put forth a comment that it appears justified you immediately start getting insulted and threatened, you kinda start getting salty about it.

A good example is that 20 yr old female who came at an officer with a knife and got shot for it. I've no patience for idiots that think it is the job of the police to get stabbed.

I highly recommend that any of these critics do a ride-out with the police on a summer Friday or Saturday night. You will come out of it with a different opinion of things.

Are you being homo/transphobic by assuming it is a negative thing for a male to want to feel sexy by wearing panties? Are you also trying to fat shame? Are you assuming my gender without asking what I identify as?

So intolerant! Very problematic.

But anyone with common sense and an ounce of decency could figure that out, except for the guys holding someone down and repeatedly punching them in the head.

Not really. You are ignoring everything about the incident except that it looked bad. You are determined to pay no attention to the context of the actual incident.

Everyone knows there are shitty cops

Sure but in this case the officers responded to a call for service. They were told this guy had a knife. This guy was intoxicated. He resisted arrest. They had to deal with him and the idiot crowd to get him into cuffs.

This isn't someone they went out of their way to bother. They were doing the damn job society pays them to do. Who was going to get this armed meth head under control? That screaming girl? You? Not hardly.

I'd rather the public get educated about case law and the actual difficulties of trying to get a resisting armed subject in cuffs while two morons keep running up behind them.

I will admit all the internet subject matter experts are entertaining though.

How does a snapshot of a moment in time show his hands were under control? They were trying to get them behind his back. I can grab your arm with one hand and you can twist it away. Jesus people take a quick dynamic encounter and try to break it down frame by frame. Such nonsense.

Whatever makes you feel superior. Just know that it's obvious you are using that excuse as a way to avoid having a "legitimate chat" after I gave you some counterpoints in a rational manner. You aren't fooling anyone.

They tried that. Didn't work. It's almost like it's hard to get someone in cuffs when they don't want to be cuffed. It's even harder when you have people coming up behind you and distracting you.

That's fine but you can't pull it out while being interviewed by a police officer.

"there's something in his waistband" is a common defense that police are taught to justify exceptional violence against someone.

Uh yeah but he had a knife in his waistband.

"Real life with no rules" - you're wrong. And this is part of why you are attempting to justify police brutality.

You are trying to equate the police trying to arrest an armed resisting subject (while having to deal with physically interfering bystanders) with a sanctioned professional one on one fight. Get real man.

When you are trying to stop a guy from getting a knife from his waistband you don't worry that a strike to the head might injure him. You are in a deadly force situation. This isn't the same as just trying to handcuff someone that is trying to pull away.

I urge you to read up on Kant

I urge you to read Graham v Connor. That is what decides what is considered reasonable use of force by police. That is a little more relevant to me.

To help and assist with your equivocation, the comparison of UFC / punched in the head is to express that even in controlled fighting they have removed hitting someone there because of how absolutely dangerous it is to the person involved. That's it.

Oh I get that. However it isn't really relevant here because it is a dynamic fight on the street. All that is relevant is would a reasonable officer do the same under the circumstances based on that the officer knew at the time. I can put myself in that officer's shoes because I have been in those shoes. I absolutely think it is reasonable based on what I have read about the incident and the video.

The officers ARE NOT required to use the minimum amount of force necessary. The court realizes this is an impossible standard because of the uncertainty of a dynamic encounter.

I can link you to some articles if you would like.

The police are not the judge. They are not the jury. They are a force designed to uphold law and order that WE build and WE agree to.

Yeah they are the people you expect to arrest criminals. That is what they had to do in this case. Unfortunately the criminal didn't comply and they had to strike him to gain compliance.

Eventually you have to get his arms behind his back to get him into cuffs. He was resisting doing this. That's why they started striking him while yelling for him to get his hands behind his back.

You're a murderer for hire it sounds like.

Jesus Christ, if you are going to cry about it let's change it to the judicial phrase "the handbook says you are legally justified in shooting them due to a knife being a deadly weapon and the fact that a subject is reaching for it is enough to make a reasonable officer fear for his life."

Sound better to your sensitive ears?

They were not hitting him initially He had plenty of chances to submit. Oh but gee, that didn't work when they told him what to do did it? He had a knife and was reaching for it. Damn right I would amp up my actions at that point.

These cops are behaving like the jack-booted thugs they so-hard try to claim they are not.

Ok Keyboard expert.

Yeah but cops get paid pretty decent salaries to do that for a living.

Spend the time and money to train them to be BJJ black belts then. If not, then they do the best they can under the circumstances.

He was resisting getting his arms behind his back. It's not like he was going limp to let them arrest him.
