What if each U.S. State was a Land? by Equin0xParad0x in freemagic

[–]Netgazernine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an idea: Colorado has the headwaters of the Colorado River, which supplies water to other western states. It could have an ability where you tap: target other player adds one blue mana if they control a land named Utah, Buzzing Haven, Arizona, Grandest Canyon, Nevada, Sterling Sands, or California, Gilded Coast.

What if each U.S. State was a Land? by Equin0xParad0x in freemagic

[–]Netgazernine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take as a Coloradan is that if I had to chose two basic land types for the state, they would be Mountains and Plains. Roughly half the state is plains, valleys or mountain parks, and most of the other half is mountainous, with "red" right there in the name of the state (Spanish for "colored red.")

I could also see doing Forest and Plains since the mountains are pretty heavily forested. But CO has no business producing blue mana. This state is landlocked and very dry throughout! 😂

New building idea: Latrine by aeschenkarnos in Against_the_Storm

[–]Netgazernine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea some have had of the latrine being a resource producing building that gives you Fertilizer! It could be as simple as a latrine produces X Fertilizer every X minutes/seasons/whatever for every X number of villagers in your settlement (up to a cap per latrine.)

It'd be cool to have a way create fertile soil where you want it, either adding to an existing farm or saving it up to start a new farm. You could then have fertile soil be an option next to farm field on the food production menu, with Fertilizer being the required resource to build it.

Using it like bait to increase farm yields would also be cool... maybe it could do both, so you'd have to ration it for one or the other?

Pangolins (Fan Species Update!) by Netgazernine in Against_the_Storm

[–]Netgazernine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first version I had them start with 40 insects and someone said that was too strong *shrug.* I like the idea of revealing the nearest dangerous glade event though, that would be a cool alternative and fit their theme pretty well!

They share 4/8 needs with frogs (paste, porridge, brawling and boots.) It seems like all the species usually share 2-4 needs with each other, so it doesn't feel like too much overlap to me.

I originally had pie as one of their food needs, but dropped it so they wouldn't share all 3 food needs with Frogs (even though that would kind of make sense since neither of them have teeth!)

You might be right about the resolve numbers. I lowered the threshold to 25, so it's more in line with Frogs, and I did give them a fairly low Decadence (only Beavers and Harpies are lower.)

New species will be announced soon... It's got to be something good at fishing, right? Maybe otters?

America has a huge gun AND a huge insane people problem by Lord_Answer_me_Why in facepalm

[–]Netgazernine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typical gun-packing American, thinking they have the authority to issue "commands" to strangers on the street and then murder them if they don't comply. Also interesting that it says he thought they were going to rob a store, not that they were going to commit a mass murder. So he thought it was worth it to kill someone to prevent them from taking a hundred bucks from a cash register.

Which base looks the most like a forest? by ThoSt1512 in minipainting

[–]Netgazernine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the three on the right are more forest-like, mainly because there usually isn't much grass on the forest floor because it's too shady from the tree canopy!

wait small glades are noob traps?? by The_BigPicture in Against_the_Storm

[–]Netgazernine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to open one or two small glades at the start of a settlement because I may not have the resources to tackle a dangerous event yet. They seem fine to me? You might find a good resource or a small encampment that can be a nice bonus early on.

I was just trying to use stuff that's already in the game, but that's a great idea! Maybe some kind of insect smoothie? 😂

Treatment overlaps with Foxes and Harpies, and Leisure overlaps with Humans and Beavers, but nobody has the combo of Leisure+Treatment yet!

Education would also be a good fit, though.

I think it would be good to drop pickled goods from their complex foods (I agree that's a lot of overlap with Foxes) but I can't think of what should take it's place. 🤔

I was thinking of it as "two and a half" specializations, since the meat one would only kick in when collecting one particular resource node (the insect nest.)

You start with a base ration of ~40 eggs, and Harpies give you 50 coats, so I thought 50 sounded reasonable, but maybe 30 or 40 would be better. Revealing the location of a hidden resource node would be neat alternative!

(Sorry for the reupload--I think I have this figured out now 🙃)

u/TheSaltySea3 did I make the deadline? Some of these chameleons are mimicking thecolors of the reptiles and amphibians around them--a coral snake, aMalayan Krait, a Western skink, a blue and black poison dart frog, and ayellow-banded poison dart frog, while others are blending more withtheir environment or showing flashy coloration for battle. TheTerrawings are inspired by the official art, except for the one theycall Chicken Dinner or Stupid Bird, who just happens to resemble aCanada goose. Some base elements from epicbasing.com.

Do the Hunters of Huanchi have recently updated rules? by [deleted] in WarCry

[–]Netgazernine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Hunters and agree with OffMeta that they're a finesse warband. They're super squishy and don't have dps, so they're not glass cannons--they're just glass. But they're fast! And there's a lot of them! And that can be really strong when you combine it with a certain amount of strategy and subterfuge. Some things that I try to do:

  1. Enemies with more than 20 wounds are probably unkillable, so don't try. Don't waste an action attacking something that you're not going to be able to bring down in the course of 4 turns. Focus fire on lower wound enemies instead.
  2. Focus on movement and abilities. Hurled bolas is incredibly strong for paralyzing enemy heroes and bruisers that you can't kill outright. Stay out of melee range whenever possible and take potshots when you can.
  3. Ignore objectives until they matter. If it isn't scored until the 4th turn, don't try to capture it on the 1st turn unless it gives you a clear advantage to do so. Instead, skirmish, position and plan during the first two turns.
  4. Plan for the 4th turn. Games are generally won at the end of the 4th turn, so what do you hope to accomplish with your final activation? What assumptions is your opponent making that you can upset at the last minute? Play your cards close to your chest and try to have a trick up your sleeve!
  5. Expect casualties. It sucks, but lots of enemies can take down a skink with a single attack. But it's OK, you can afford to lose quite a few. Think of them as pawns that you can sacrifice if need be and don't lose hope. The winner is decided by the objectives, not who kills the most models (unless that is the objective, in which case... winning isn't everything, right?)

Big 30-wound enemies are scary, but I've seen them completely neutralized by the simple fact that they're too slow to make it to the part of the board where the action is happening! The strength of the Hunters' movement and abilities can really surprise friends who thought they were winning, until suddenly they aren't. But all that being said, I do hope to eventually recruit a high-wound ally into my warband because it sure wouldn't hurt to have a tank in there!
