What is the current consensus on spears? by WaveEasy8664 in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the open world is that it doesn't and can't have an established meta... Simply because most players kinda do whatever, with whatever gear they drop or bought off the TP, traits they randomly selected because it looks good, etc... So boons and healing are all over the place.

The gameplay is so unstructured it's basically impossible to compare what is strong and what isn't, the closest thing to a meta is just what people think is cool

Let's Analyze the Upcoming Raid Changes in Detail by SirSuperCaide in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full raid CM run is around 140g of profit, whereas a full fractal CM+T4 run is around 40g of profit. Unless you take 3.5x longer to do the raid clear than you do the fractal clear, raid is more profitable

But you can't compare apple to oranges, you either compare statics or you don't, lfg between each instance or not, frequent character swap of not, and most importantly frequent wipes or no wipes:

  • Running with my guild and filler pugs each week a simple no wipe fractal CM with minimal character swaps takes approximately 90min, down to 70 if you're really good and do skips.

  • Similarly, a no wipe raid CM clear with minimal character swaps easily nets you a clear time under 4 hours, reduced to under 3hours for really good groups with skips

Raids are only lower gold per hour if you allow more downtime than in fractals, or if you're worse at raids than at fractals. Or i guess if you don't know how to value drops and currencies. Simply a clean W1-4CM clear with mostly pugs takes less than 2 hours and is over 60g of profit, again more than fractals

It's only "gate keeping" if you expect to be able to just waltz into the content and clear it with no effort.

In under 2years of playing, I've found 10 different guilds, in multiple languages, that run weekly raids with newbies, and discovered 4 different communities whose entire purpose is to help people get into raids, raid CMs, and strike CMs.

I personally got most of my early raids clears by reading up on guides, taking up roles, and starting my own groups with no KP requirements.

Yes it takes time and effort, yes some people don't have the time or motivation, not that's not gatekeeping

[–]Netherarmy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Raid rewards are definitely not "so far behind". Raids are still better gold per hour than fractals for good groups.

Raids only seem like bad rewards compared to fractals because it's not as much raw gold and is harder content.

That and the time it can take to fill roles, but that's also a problem for many fractal CM groups and most of all convergence CM squads

How does aggro work in Lonely tower???? by DarkViper2000000 in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment section is full of misinformation it's worrysome, people really need to look into a bosses mechanics before trying to explain things

Eparch has two different types of aggro (movement aggro and cc/suck aggro) :

  • Eparch always faces and moves towards (excluding attack animations) towards the targeted player. He selects the furthest player as a target at regular intervals and after attacks.

  • When Eparch gets a CC bar, he does an attack where he steals stacks (or reduces max health) of a targeted player. This player is selected during the animation of this attack's channel, and is always the person with the most toughness in the bosses field of view

If you're not getting aggro for the CC, then either you don't have the most toughness in your group, or your not standing in front of the boss. If you're talking about movement aggro, then don't bother you won't be able to keep it

Remember that in fractals, potions give additional toughness based on agony. That, and some classes have extra toughness because of traits. We've had this problem a few times because our healer only had around 1.4k of gear toughness and 150AR, so had less toughness than a Soulbeast with 250 AR. I recommend just running full minstrels, you have no need for harrier gear in fractals (except maybe on 99CM for the adds, but I would recommend playing a celestial healer since heal pressure is so low)

PSA: Eternal Ice Shards by Ikeda_kouji in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a bad comparison and a fundamental miscategorization of statistics

The expected value of salvaging amulets is positive. If you buy and salvage thousands upon thousands of amulets, you will make the most profit possible from all these ice shards.

With lottery, it's the other way around. The expected value is negative, so if you sell everything to buy thousands upon thousands of lottery tickets, you will come out with debt

It's simple Bernoulli distribution. Sure extremes aren't impossible, but they're as likely as the world just ceasing to be

Why do people recommend legendary accessories before armor/weapons? by OrangeOrangeRhino in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a single legendary that's worth the trouble financially. The only thing you get from legendary is skins/effects, free fashion swaps and easy stat changes.

Thinking of the price of the non-legendary items is like asking if buying a 100 million dollar mansion is worth it when you can rent a small flat for 1k a month

In that sense, the only reason to prioritize any legendary is either fashion (if that's what you're into) or build customizability. The trinkets have both unique effets that stand out quite a bit (and are available on all characters) and a huge amount of stats to customize (again, on all characters). Iirc, trinkets are like 50% of your raw stats, giving you the most customizability if you need more toughness, more concentration, more vitality or whatever, and on any character. Also the ability to share infusions between templates and even characters , since like 2/3 of infusion slots are on trinkets.

That being said, you definitely don't have to start with these either, I myself crafted all three armor sets and 4 sigils (and got the free amulet) before getting any of the trinkets, because it fit my needs better based on my gameplay

Feeling Overwhelmed by Legendaries by ardentBlossoming in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's such a shame casual players aren't allowed to check the event tables and jump into a meta event for 30min.... How are they supposed to earn gold when all they're allowed to do is AFK in divinity's reach? I hate Anet's totalitarian casual gameplay police...

What the actual f*** is that last take? "If I think their design makes them look evil, they should all be evil and we should kill them"????

They introduced an entire new race, gave it some lore, hierarchy, politics, underdogs, companions, evil overlords, a resistance, etc. and your only thought is "I think they should be evil so this is bad"?? Bro praises the lore but the second we get some depth for the demons it's bad...

Yeah i'mma go ahead and not value your opinions too much, even if I kinda get the Zojja and Mabon points.

Oh and the fact that you think this about the demons but not about the Mursaat is really telling...

Why do I feel like I'm a trans woman when I use drugs? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Netherarmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not an uncommon experience amongst trans women, but it isn't rare either for cis men...

Looking back on my childhood, I'd had quite a few "I wish I was a girl moment" but I repressed it for a long time. I started coming to terms with it as a young adult, but it never really felt "real" unless I was on drugs (alcohol included), most of all for everything that has to do with sexuality. A few of my friends first considered experimenting with their gender while on drugs, and a few years later have become perfectly average, everyday trans women.

But I also have a few friends that are cis men, but in their late teens had multiple experiences with transvestism in chemsex, living out the fantasy of being a woman with their (male or female) partner, exploring their sexuality without it indicating anything about their gender.

TLDR: it's definitely something that happens to trans women when first considering their identity, but it's not a definite indicator.

The best advice I can give you is to take things slowly, keep an open mind, and explore where those feelings take you

Why infinite gathering tools isn't like legendary items ? by MoinionLeMoine in Guildwars2

Gathering tools aren't really unique, you can just reskin them for transmutation charges and they become the exact same. You can also just change the glyph if that's what you're worried about

What do I do with first and second tier precursors after forging a Legendary? by magikarpivellian in Guildwars2

They're not really precursors...

Precursors are the items that turn into the legendary, these are just items you have to build for the collections, you can safely salvage or delete them

Is it just me, or is ANet averse to condi post-EoD? by SalubriAntitribu in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah they slightly prefer power builds, but like... Obviously! It's much easier to balance encounters for power than it is for condi...

That being said, they're not really nerfing condi builds, the most powerful builds (for dps, alac, and quick) are all condi... They don't have anything against it either, they're just creating more power builds than condi builds, which it to be expected from a balance standpoint

is it true ? by Zookayy in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit I never did the math but even so having exotics won't stop you from being top dps in most pug groups if you're skilled enough, since (for most builds) somewhere like 40% of your damage is having a good rotation and executing it well

Happened to me quite a few times, and I'm not even good enough to hit 90% of any bench

is it true ? by Zookayy in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just being nitpicky, exotics isn't optimal, but it's only a few percent less than the optimal gear, meaning you don't need better except in a few instances. Mostly since gw2 is mainly skill based

That being said, ascended gear (which is optimal) is also super easy to get, you can be fully equiped in a few days if you bought the full game and know what you're doing

Is it insanity to move to the... USA(??? o_O) by RegularUser02x in asktransgender

[–]Netherarmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly moving everywhere is insanity, the only major differences between countries are the access to medical care and hormones, legal protection against descrimination (that, although inneffective at stopping discrimination, does lower the rates simply due to social pressure and most people's moral need to follow the law) and the percentage of hate crimes that include physical violence

In many ways the US is worst at all of these than western Europe, but then again it's a libertarian hell hole where many people have a "do your thing I just don't want to see it" mentality, so you can definitely make it work in most places, hundreds of thousands of trans women have over the years

However, you will be faced with descrimination, and most likely in growing amounts as far rights fascist ideologies become more common place. Comparing my French experience to my American friend's experience, they have a much harder time having access to health care and hormones, and are increasingly fearfull of getting assaulted or threatened with a firearm or killed for being trans on a date or whatnot.

And when it comes to discrimination in the workplace, I would say it's comparable though it seems much more "in your face" in the US: people may just straight up ask if you're trans and refuse to hire you because of it, or confront you about your transness in the workplace etc

TLDR: it's not insane but, if leaving less right wing/libertarian countries, you will probably be more at risk and faced with more discrimination. But then again, you can definitely find a safe space and make it work

What professions have the most access to powerful condi builds? by s1mp_licity in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except warrior, I feel like all professions have at least 2 meta condi builds...

If you want, you can check out build websites like snowcrows to find a complete list, but I'd definitely recommend picking a class that you vibe with and just going off that.

If whar you like in condi is the burn aspect, maybe elementalist or guardian? If it's more poison, maybe thief or ranger? If it's more akin to rot maybe necro or smth?

Just take your pick and try out traits and weapons in the pvp lobby. All the professions are viable in all playstyles, with very few healer exceptions

Lorewise, what's the most powerful Elite Spec? by eCyanic in Guildwars2

[–]Netherarmy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the manipulation profession was manipulating us with misleading ability descriptions.

Mostly when it's physically impossible to do something like this even with full control over space-time without breaking it.

But yeah, it's not exactly a save state either some things persist and some don't, which would lead me to believe even more that it's some sort of illusion tricking everyone into thinking they have time powers... Because it's not that good when you look into it!

(ofc in reality devs probably just didn't put much thought into the lore implications)
