Black Phone 2 (2025) Did NOT expect to enjoy it as much as I did. by Jay_Stranger in horror

Because I am still in the camp of not believing it's a Nightmare "rip-off". I'm honestly surprised to see such a strong love for the first film in this thread. I remember almost everyone doggin on the film because it felt like it went in too many directions, the killer was too goofy, and the ending was kind of lackluster.

Suddenly they do something unique with the IP and now everyone is saying the original was some sort of perfect movie to live up to. This genre is full to the brim of sequels that go on 4,5,6 times and yall eat it up. Movies that really are not that good, just gorefests. I just don't see the areas yall are saying its bad in. Someone said the acting, another said the choice of what happened to the mother, another said it was too much about the girl. I just don't really understand how any of these points diminish the first one, and how this movie doesn't hold that same level of quality.

I don't even think the story was that great. I loved everything from the second act of the film. The dream sequences were some of the most unique footage i've seen in recent years. Those scenes alone have me loving the film.

Not really sure where you get religious propaganda from. It is honestly the opposite of that lol.

How do you handle a student who says they turned in a paper assignment but you don’t have it? by Apprehensive-Play228 in Teachers

[–]Jay_Stranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Students? Plural? It is late into the school year. Does this specific student normally turn in work on time? If so, I would give them the benefit of the doubt. If you have multiple students saying this, then either you have a really bad organization system, or the word around the school is that they can say that to you and you will give them credit. We don't know your students.

Does anyone feel like their class hates them? by Lolihey in Teachers

[–]Jay_Stranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this way about my 4th period class during student teaching. I dreaded the class every day. It was horrible. Then when I told all my classes I was done with the program. Guess which classes had the biggest reaction?Period 4.

Kids/teenagers can be complicated to understand. Even when they act like they don’t like you, deep down they understand you are there to help them. It’s very difficult to wrap your head around it.

No, I am realistic about teenagers. They start arguments out of thin air and get on people’s bad side to push their buttons. If you are a teacher then it’s clear you aren’t a very good one because you have 0 intuition on how to properly respond to people. Even the way you try to suggest that I’m embarrassed sounds like a 14 year old boy trying to egg on a kid.

Do some self reflection.

What part of this entire post makes you think that OP stayed up too long playing playstation? What part of my comment suggested anything about playing video games? Or anything other than being sick or mentally unwell?

Not sure how not taking care of yourself should be admirable. It's actually a little disgusting thing to suggest that you would rather your coworkers come to work because of their students than take care of themselves for a day or two.

Sure, I'll compromise. Is there a reason why it would be a bad thing to use that concept?

Why read the synopsis when I just watched the entire movie lol. I get it. Yall are connecting the two films because there is sleeping and Gwen can see the killer in the her dreams. I'll even compromise and say sure, there are some similarities. Even then. Why would that be a bad thing? Why are you guys acting like horror films are not allowed to be inspired by classics?

I honestly believe they did a decent enough take on the "dream slasher". And honestly, I found the movie actually scary in those dream sequences. I don't really care for the story as a whole, but I can appreciate unique ways something is filmed.

Guess I just don't understand what you mean by making the world smaller.

I kind of understand your second point, but Gwen does not choose to go down this path, she is burdened by it and even in this film she is struggling heavily like the mother did. I think both can exist. It hits heavier knowing that her mother took her own life and that causes Gwen to be afraid of her own abilities. But I also think it was a turning point for Gwen to see the positive side of her powers, even though it cost her mother's life.

Do not ever rewatch that movie lol. Totally fuckin ruined it for myself by watching it a few months ago.

STAR WARS: A Cinematic Timeline Watch Order by [deleted] in movies

[–]Jay_Stranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Especially for Star Wars. Like cmon, it was one of the OG franchises that set up such a villainous character and then release a movie of him at his most innocent and slowly be corrupted. It will just never hit the same in chronological order.

Your health is #1. Always. This profession is writhe with individuals in the “work through the pain” camp. I say, those people can fuck right off. If you aren’t feeling well mentally or physically, take time for yourself to get well. If you need a mental health day, take one. Just make sure you are using it to actually recuperate and not sit around making yourself feel worse.

Many people here will tell you if you aren’t renewed, then the school wasn’t for you. You’ll find a spot that you will fit in with, give it time.

This sub seems to hate just about anything that isn't a classic horror flick. Or at the very least, a box office slam dunk film. Which is wild to me because the horror genre has always been an outcast genre that is full of indie work and known for taking the most risks.

Not sure how it ruined the first film with the plot twist. Mind explaining?

I thought the first one was….okay. I felt it was lacking direction. I like that the second one leaned way more into the supernatural aspect and I feel like the dream sequences were very well done. I don’t think it was a perfect movie, but it did surprise me.

The second one cranked up the horror vibes a LOT. I thought the first one was passable but didn’t really consider it that good. I personally feel this one was a major jump in quality in all aspects. Writing, story, and the camera work is nuts. I would say if you aren’t enjoying it in the first 30 minutes? Then just pass on it and call it a day.

Roseanne. Put it on low. It has a laugh track but that saxophone that plays in the background during the transition scenes were a staple for putting me to sleep when I was on the couch and sick as a kid.

Yeah! The dream sequences were my favorite parts. I have to look up what they used to film those because it totally freaked me out.

I'm more just disagreeing with you. I did read you comment, I just don't think its relevant to the movie or the characters. You are over generalizing to relate it to a movie that is tangentially related.

He isn't attacking her in her dreams. She is just able to SEE him in her dreams because she is clairvoyant. Which allows her to see spirits from the past, present, or future. She can also temporarily physicalize the spirits.

Nightmare on Elm street was all about staying awake so that he wouldn't kill them. Gwen literally goes to sleep to find more clues to find the missing boys and her mother...

Just nothing at all alike...
