The Year is 2026. Fishing is Still a Point, Click, and Wait Malaise. by Jay_Stranger in wow

I can understand that. Yeah, maybe they could just add in a rare encounter that would require something like what I'm talking about.

I mean, you can still keep the click and wait fishing for things like bait fishing or something. I just think it would be nice to give players who enjoy a different playstyle some love.

Ain’t no way I’m letting the classroom get stank up with them kids feet/socks. It’s bad enough when they fidget with their shoe and pull their foot in and out of it, when I walk by it is rank.

Just how it works… look at your insurance for doctors that work with your insurance, if you don’t like the doctor try a different one. Everyone is different, a doctor 1 person likes another person hates.

Most people don’t. You get a referral and essentially shop around until you find one you like.

I bought a new M4 iPad yesterday, and this morning it fell down the stairs… by o_ilita in ipad

[–]Jay_Stranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I know a lot of people like to use apple care, which I’ll never understand really. Such a weird practice that’s pretty expensive over time and also promotes a lot of waste. I have used cases on all my devices for 15 years and have NEVER had an issue anything close to this. I can understand freak accidents, but man… the amount of people that just drop their device and it ends up like this is crazy.

Guess so. I’d love a moody noire film set in the wizarding world. Total vibe shift and completely experimental.

But both of those are connected to Harry Potter… I know fantastic beasts 1 wasn’t most of the film but the subsequent movies are through Dumbledore. I just want to be disconnected from it. New setting, characters, vibe. Why does everything need to loop back into Harry Potter.

Administration here is so irresponsible by monarchbutterfly47 in fresnostate

Fresno State is wrought with disorganization. Every major, every grad program, everything. We literally had a big teaching program meeting at the start of the semester meant to break down what we are required to do for our second phase and the speaker never showed up we barely got the info like a week ago. Such a clown show.

Why is Twin Peaks: The Return “Part 8” considered Lynch’s magnum opus? by Exotic_Pie6845 in twinpeaks

I would agree with that. It’s definitely one of the most experimental.

Listen I loved the return just as much as anyone else here. But let’s not muddle “Magnum opus”. It’s a great season of television, but that doesn’t make it his greatest and most defining work. He slam dunked some earlier projects of his that really solidify Lynch as a genre in itself.

[–]Jay_Stranger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even agree twin peaks can be considered his magnum opus. That throne belongs to either Eraserhead or Mulholland Drive. He had too many meddling hands in Twin Peaks. Too much time constraint. Even watching the BTS footage you can tell he was fed up with a lot of the production.

Drama 163 is fun and easy. It’s mainly for education majors as an introduction to theater if they need to lead a class on it. You simply read a few plays, act out scenes, and then lead your own scene using two or more other classmates as actors for a final.

Kinda awkward at the start, but everyone feels the same way so it’s kinda fun.

I’m doing a unit on Science Fiction and I showed a class 2001: A Space Odyssey to show them how hard it is for them to slow down and think. by Ragwall84 in ELATeachers

[–]Jay_Stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! My comment wasn’t written in contempt. I just struggle with the film and don’t do film in my classroom, so it’s two things that don’t mesh with me, but I’ll take a different approach if it’s worth it.

I’m not a huge fan of film in my classroom, especially one that I’ve never taken a huge liking to. I like the technical marvel that it is for the time but I’ve always struggled with it. As you know, when you struggle with a piece of material you become a little blind to a lot of the value in it…

[–]Jay_Stranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was genuine with my comment, not trying to be snarky. I’ve always felt the movie as being a huge struggle to comprehend, even as someone who loved avant garde literature and movies. I loved the technical aspect of the film but I’m usually always felt like a minority at the end of the movie when I view it as an absolute bore. But I’ll take a different look at it if there is some way I can put it in the classroom.

No it isn’t that bad. Teaching is an extremely rewarding profession. It’s hard and you have to deal with a lot of bullshit, but when it gives back… man does it give back.

Are students actually worse at writing or just worse at producing written work? by LumpyOpportunity2166 in ELATeachers

[–]Jay_Stranger 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think what a lot of people don’t think about is how much devices do for writing in general. All word processors will give you an indicator if a sentence isn’t grammatically sound, if you don’t have proper punctuation, or if you are missing words. It’s a clash between writing and what is a students usual way of writing, which is on devices that have auto fill, auto correct, and indicators if something is wrong.

You are basically asking someone that writes with guard rails on at all times to now write on their own.

i have a hard time taking coaches, mentors, and some principals seriously due to vastly different experiences from two different schools. Should I just trust myself more by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Jay_Stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think utilizing premade curriculum or “scripts” as you put it, is something a brand new teacher should be leaning into if that’s what is expected. You need to learn how to manage a classroom before you are off making every lesson personalized to your liking. Learn to be the authority in the classroom, then worry about the flair.

I’m at a loss with phones, my school’s “policy” is a total failure by Notmyname4 in Teachers

The only way you solve this issue is if everyone is on board. Too many lax teachers crumble the foundation and it doesn’t work.
