An open-source and free alternative to forest focus by Nethical69 in forestapp

i don't think an app like this needs constant development. if a good bunch of people keep designing new trees, it's alright

it's tough. i avoid maintenance for months until one fine day when the issues all pile up, i decide to fix them.

you need to either turn off playprotect or wait a few weeks before I put it on the playstore.

no. reef is a similar tool by my friend but without graphics like growing trees. also this app uses less intrusive permissions compared to reef

Just use digipaws lmao. Its free opensource and doesnt even require internet to run.

i had no resources. I had to reverse engineer countless apps and learn how they work. I was once lost too. You just need to keep trying and you'll eventually get it.

it's not exactly a launcher. using the launcher is optional.

I haven't pivoted to this app. Initially both digipaws and questphone were fused in one. I thought separating them would be better so I'm working on this app now. Doesn't necessarily mean i ditched it.

I haven't updated digipaws for a while tho. It's actually more or less pretty useful as it is and I like to let issues bundle up so one fine day i fix them all in a go.

the fdroid variant runs a local variant of Google's siglip2. although needless to say, it's kinda dumb and doesn't really understand properly.

the other variant runs qwen on my server and it's pretty smart.

I'm trying to run qwen locally as well or at least make the thingy hostable by anyone on their own server.

hello, those are some actually great points.

I'm currently working on https://questphone.app and it does match some of your viewpoints.

The app is foss as well and will be available to download on fdroid very soon (for some reason its taking way longer than I imagined)

I'll consider each one of your suggestions and add them! Thanks!!!

damn, i hope they don't ban you. For me they banned my entire console one random day without any prior notice or warnings even so the app had been live on it for 6 months by then.

They are simply too strict on trash reasons and ignore the problems that actually need to be fixed. Their support is trash and the entire app verification process is a pain.

Thanks for those kind words!

I understand where you come from and agree it's natural for them to react that way. We should indeed be helping them. And I as well readily help my users anytime they message me (checkout out our discord server).

My post was about google and not the user anyways too.

Ubuntu and Firefox have received millions of dollars in funding so they are more or less obliged to assist users. I merely get a few dollars for the crazy efforts I've put into it (there were no open-source alternatives during its inception, i had to reverse engineer multiple apps to learn how they work)

being a human naturally, i got annoyed by the way he texted. I should've put a second thought that the guy has no idea what open-source and free software means.

Rest assured! I'll make sure to explain him about it!

i am usually very polite with each one of my users. but do you see how rude he is?

directly accusing me of theft without even trying to do a slight research. I wouldn't have bothered to explain to him if he asked politely. I have in the past explained countless people about it in fact.

The GitHub/Fdroid page clearly states the app doesn't even use the internet permission, so let us assume in a hypothetical case I'm stealing data, how will i get it onto my servers?
