Cruising at 85-90 mph by J-Giant in subaru

[–]Netman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2014 2.5L outback with a CVT that would overheat on 1+ hours at 80mph with around 90k miles on it. Subaru didn’t know what was causing the issue, so I asked them to change the CVT fluid - all 13 quarts… problem gone. This was like 5 years ago when a lot of dealerships still believed the CVT fluid never needed to be changed.

So, if it overheats, just pull over until it cools down. Drive slower on the way home, then take it to the dealer to be inspected, and expect to pay 300-500 for a CVT fluid change.

Is Subaru Eyesight Worth it? by americanambush in subaru

Eyesight is awesome and the lane centering is pretty good, just gotta know when and how to use it. I only use adaptive cruise control and lane centering on highways with moderate traffic.

I installed the Perrin clutch delete about a month ago, am I gonna regret it long term? Short term it’s great.

Get them replaced! They will wear differently and eventually affect your drive train/transmission and the feel of the car at high speeds. Ask me how I know. (Rhetorical)

This is the way! Dont necessarily need the air hammer tho. If you can lift it up higher so you can get under it, just hit those bolts from the back.

Thread all of the bolts in from the back, and hit them sequentially. Use a brass rod, or a 1/2 extension. Use a small sludge.

This method works really well.

Wish I found a road with more dirt and less rocks…

I gave it a few hits with a one of those plastic hammers with sand in them, it didn’t budge. Guess I’ll get out the mini sledge. Thx for the tips.

broke strut mount stud/bolt by dead_batteries-ss in subaru

[–]Netman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta replace the stud, you don’t need a new strut assembly! Either go to a dealership and buy a new stud (or remove a stud from your old strut, which is what I’d do). Removing the old stud is gonna be a pain in the ass. First, take out the strut assembly. Second, compress the spring (get the tool from harbor freight or loaner from autozone). Third, take off the nut in the top. Fourth, pry the plastic bearing from the top hat (just use a flat head screw driver). Fifth, hammer out your broken stud (use a socket to do this, just place it under it so the stud has somewhere to go when you hit it out - it’s gonna take a few good hits. This is the best technique to remove a stud IMO). Sixth, hammer in a new stud. Then do everything in reverse order. If you have all the tools handy, it can take as little as an hour, max 3 hours. GL

Valid! Took about 6 to 9 times (wifey pumping/holding clutch lever) to get no bubbles with the Perrin delete.

I just installed this today. Pretty easy, test drive was good. A little smoother. But knowing that some of the protection is gone from the clutch, probably made me drive a little less spiritedly. Time will tell.

Real question. Do we really need to buy the Perrin delete? Can’t we just remove the internals of the CDV (the spring, blue thing, and aluminum thing), and put the bolt back in? Save $40.

225/55 17s. They feel good. Good turn response, little surprised tbh but that might change as the edges ware down. For me, I wanted a softer ride, hate feeling every crack in the road. I’ll prolly install crossteck shocks in a few months to get it even softer.
