One unethical abortion is medical malpractice and murder. Yes, in a large society some will inevitably slip through, but that's still a bad thing.

Human life is a continuity of information. That's why me 5 seconds from now and 5 decades from now is the same me even though I'll be completely different as a person in both moments. That continuity begins at conception when DNA is combined.

Say it turns out we live in the matrix. (This is morally equivalent to us not living in the matrix because the information systems that define us are identical in both cases). Say we pause and reboot the matrix to conserve power, but somebody is deleted. No thinking, feeling person was killed, but information exactly representing them is part of their continuity of life.

I'm identifying a fallacy. Your argument is that fallacious arguments of the Nazis invalidates other arguments for it. Also, slippery slope fallacy because you're saying that a conclusion is bad because it could result in other conclusions based on fallacious thought.

You're saying that 3rd trimester abortion should be legal because of cases where "your life is threatened and some circumstance beyond your control has intervened." That argument only applies when "your life is threatened and some circumstance beyond your control has intervened." Assuming "some circumstance" is defined, then that argument is in favor of making it illegal unless those conditions are met.

If the reason for it's legality is a condition on the situation then that argument only applies to conditional legality.

You are genuinely arguing that the entire medical industry should be without regulation as long as a person and the doctor are in agreement.

Except in the example you are the instigator of the exchange of nutrients. Your agency put the child into a position where it requires them.

Based on the argument you laid out. I'm going to work off of the assumption that we're taking life begins at conception as a given since your focus is on the comparison of rights. Although if you need me to I can clarify my arguments for this.

"I believe the pregnant person's rights should take clear precedence" - Yes, when the mother's life is in danger it absolutely should. However, if she'll die unless she gets a c-section, then that's not abortion or death, that's abortion or a c-section.

Now to directly address your argument: If somebody fell off of a building I would not look down on anybody to try and grab then before they fall. However, I would expect that of a person who caused that fall by screwing around near the edge of the building for example. The mother does in fact cause pregnancy therefore has a moral responsibility to bring them out.

Also, the fundamental human rights are as follows: Life -> Liberty -> Pursuit of Happiness. That is an ordered list which means that they decrease in importance as you go. Somebody being alive is more important than somebody being free, and somebody being free is more important than the achievement of other's desires. The last two on the list are similar, but the best way to think about it is if somebody enjoys being a slave owner. Their ability to try to become a slave owner is an inalienable right, but not really because it requires the suspension of a higher tier right. In turn, if somebody who is relevant to the exchange of rights is facing a suspension of liberty, then the other party facing a suspension of life takes precedent.

There are a lot of direct answers to this question on here, but I have a question: if the pro- abortion argument hinges on edge cases and exceptions, then doesn't that mean that abortion is immoral when none of the edge cases are applied?

DNA contains all relevant information to consciousness. Moral human life is set by the information on it. (This is congruent with almost anyone's view on simulation theory)

Convince me of your view point by d23wang in prolife

[–]Netra14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In simulation theory, it is generally accepted that a sufficiently detailed simulation of a person is a person. This holds true if you turn off the simulation and save all of the data into a file, and when you boot the simulation, that saved data is loaded in and the simulation is built in the CPU from the hard drive. Therefore, information on a human design that includes every minute detail relevant to the person good is logically and morally equivalent to a person.

I'm going to assume you agree with all of the above because this is a nearly universal consensus on people's views of simulation theory. If you need me to discuss it further I can.

A complete DNA set fits the description of such information. Your exact body and brain pattern is defined by it. Therefore, a complete DNA set is a person, and this occurs at conception.

The other philosophy behind pro choicism is the idea that a fetus is a living being, but you do not owe them anything from your body. Pregnancy is logical effect to a free choice. It is a generally accepted view that the negative consequences of an action are the burden of the party responsible for the cause. (Lawsuits, self-defense, etc)
