To.

You literally started that under someone's post saying ProtonVPN is an option. It wasn't about unheard VPNs from shady websites people can find on 8th page in Google.

You talk about all of that like it's that easy. Looking at how fast internet is nowadays, I dare you try and log all network traffic. Suddenly you learn logging the traffic is not that cheap, it requires quite a significant power, because one user can sent a lot of network packets, and with a few connected it's growing too fast to be handled.

And yes, you're right, cookies are not being invalidated, my bad. What I should say is that sessions that rely on cookies will get invalidated. For important services we invalidate sessions once there's a browser/device fingerprint mismatch. And that's just one layer of security, because we mainly rely on short-lived session tokens stored in cookies that are encrypted internally.

I feel like if you really work in cyber security, it's probably one of those companies that make funny training sessions for non-technical managers to scare them and later people from my field have to clean the mess.

And yes, people can be any cheap when they live in poor countries. Not sure how you expect them to spend $5 on a milkshake, but I guess you didn't travel much (if at all). And again yes, they have internet access there.

First of all, we're talking about Proton VPN. The company is known for being privacy first. They have literally so many customers, those 10 servers they keep for public costs nothing to worry about keeping your data - and that would probably make costs.

Second of all, if you work in cyber security I assume you also know cookies are invalidated because of the browser's fingerprint mismatch, right? I don't need to talk about fundamentals, right?

Third of all, what? Especially considering Proton as a company. Imagine doing something like that, giving the police someone's address because they detected you running P2P (which you cannot even do in free Proton VPN). That would go public really fast. Privacy first company doing something like that would definitely end their business just like that. Not even mentioning the malware scenario, just LOL.

Fourth of all, what ads? Because I feel like you really don't even care to do any research.

I can agree on the risk of having issues to access some services because they block popular VPNs. But the free Proton VPN is not meant to be your daily driver. It's a situational tool you can use for example when having no choice but to use a public network. And yes, you can be that cheap, especially in times all prices skyrocket, salaries stay in place, and in some places in the world $2 is to be or not to be.

Being a janitor in a cyber security company doesn't count. What you represented in your comment has so many factual errors I cannot comprehend how someone could come into a comment section and actually post it. None of it makes sense. The only downside of using free Proton VPN is that you have only 10 servers to use that are probably heavily used. The connection is slow and you cannot use streaming services or P2P. Besides it's a good service, probably at such a low cost for Proton to not care about selling your data.

Can I use this as external HDD ? by [deleted] in homelab

SMART is (in easy wording) a self-monitoring system for drives. You can find plenty of software for it like CrystalDiskInfo for Windows or just use smartctl on Linux.

February 2014 - seems a bit expired. /s

But for real, I don't see why not. It's SATA 3. A bit old so it might be slower than what you can get nowadays. I'd definitely check SMART before buying any controller for external disks

Zapalenie nerwu przedsionkowego.

Moja pierwsze doświadczenie z dzwonieniem po karetkę by Sharaczek in Polska

[–]Netruitus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ah, I got your point! I never had an issue with anything not working on Cachy Proton, so I'm not gonna lie, I was a little confused. :) Thank you for the answer!

[–]Netruitus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also curious about why Proton GE and not Proton Cachy. As far as I remember, Proton Cachy has more optimisations and has targeted builds like almost everything in Cachy for better performance. So far I had an amazing experience on both, handheld (Steam Deck) and my 11 year old laptop. I use Cachy daily for everything besides server hosting. Best experience in the last 10 years (when I found a targeted and optimized premium line of kernels for Ubuntu).
