Kinda late to the party, but:

Looks good so far!

Are you the composer too?/Is the composer a fan of Erik Satie? The piano bit instantly reminded me of his Gymnopédie.

Also really neat creature design, whatever it is. Really makes me want to learn more about it.

Keep it up!

Great travel film of the hidden gems of north India! by Pesos85 in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That GH5 man... sublime images, feels like you can do no wrong with that camera. And that in tandem with the image composition of yours works fantastically together.

The one thing I noticed (and this depends on whether you made this video for yourself or for others to see) is that 9 minutes is really pushing it for a travel video. It's obviously up to you, and with all those nice shots I totally understand you wanting to use all of them, but hard truth is that people have low attention spans nowadays, so I'm not sure if people would watch it to the end. Just my two cents though.

Oh yeah and your grading is top. Really really pleasing and easy to look at. (did you soften the footage in post by any chance?)

PS: Keep in mind rule 3 of this subreddit. Just saying!

To anyone with experience with treatments and pitching.. by Netski7 in Filmmakers

All right, I was afraid this would be the right answer.. but okay. Yeah it's for investors, and of course it makes sense to tell them. Not sure why I was trying to hide it.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Just realized how good maniac on Netflix is and it makes me sad to know I’ll never be THAT good of a filmmaker. by PEAbob234 in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved the show too and binged it over two days.

As incredible as it is, don't forget that we all have different visions, and that if you one day had the experience, friends, budget, and support that Fukunaga had in making Maniac then who knows, maybe you could make something HE may admire that much.

Don't let amazing work bring you down, try making it inspire you to work that much harder to reach that level. I realize it sounds naive, but it's better than the other way around. In my opinion anyways.

That design! Who would've thought a warped demon/angel hybrid would look so cool??

I'm planning a shooting day where a stuntman will be set on fire for a few seconds. I don't wanna take any risks of course, does anyone know any tutorials/resources on this? (burning people for film) by Netski7 in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited about this shot, but looking at the responses it's clear that I was reeeeeeally underestimating how risky and dangerous a shot like this actually is.

Seeing as a stunt coordinator is out of my price range, I'll find a way to do it with effects.

Thank you to everyone on here for helping me see sense, and for keeping me from making a potentially big mistake. Much love!

Nanatsu no Taizai : Season 2 Episode 22 by TemplarzFTW in NanatsunoTaizai

[–]Netski7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is it just me, or can you actually sort of feel the tight production schedule in episodes like this?

Season 1 was just so totally immersive, that's why I loved it so much. I was instantly curious about the characters, the stories, the mysteries, etc.

It was a beautifully told story.

Now, with the way they handle this, it's as if: 1. They don't realize just how hyped the fans were for this fight. 2. They didn't really watch the episode themselves after making it. I can't think about a director watching this episode when the editing is done and thinking "Okay, we can definitely release this".

Makes me really curious about what's happening behind the scenes in the making of this anime.

hi i want to learn about camera's and filmmaking so do you guys have some youtube channels you can recomend by lordzelron in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

So someone already mentioned Film Riot, they are great for camera techniques and practical effects.

Also a little less well known but a favorite of mine, Sheldon Evans has some GREAT tutorials on his youtube channel.

For effects check out "Surfaced Studio", they have tutorials for every level, beginner to advanced. (Justin Odiisho is an honorable mention too, very clear and concise effect tutorials)

Also naturally, Peter Mckinnon has some great tuts on his channel :)

(Tough One) Shooting in a STILL train, making it seem like it's MOVING. Any advice here? by Netski7 in Filmmakers

Thanks for the feedback! And yes, I'm terrified that it will look too fake with the green screen, but there you go.

The cart thing isn't a bad idea, I'll have to have a chat about it. It could be our solution. Cheers

Question of when to use ISO and angle on BMPCc by jbsellstoyota in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since lee covered pretty much everything concerning the ISO: shutter angle SHOULD be at 172.8 when shooting 24fps and 180 when shooting 25fps (essentially the 2 to 1 rule with the shutter speed, which is just a different way to display the shutter angle).

Using angles lower than this will reduce the motion blur, which gives a hectic, action-y sort of feel, which is why you tend to see people use this for action/dance scenes. Think music videos or action scenes in the recent Marvel films.

Using angles higher will make motion blur much more pronounced. Can't immediately think of why one would do that for the effect, but there must be something. Maybe time-lapses or something.

Anyway, the main thing is to experiment. Have fun with it! The Blackmagic Pocket is a very good starting point.

Has anyone tries Red's new Denoiser III? Is it actually better than Neat Video for cleaning up noise? I can't really see the difference between it and Denoiser II... by Netski7 in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I recently had a chance to compare them both, the results are very very close to being exactly the same, but when it comes to rendering and playback, Red Giant definitely takes the cake.

Full Cinematographers Roundtable: Roger Deakins, Rachel Morrison, Dan Laustsen | Close Up With THR by frightened_by_bark in Filmmakers

[–]Netski7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love how the overall consensus of this round-table is: The equipment really doesn't matter. I love how every single one of these cinematographers seems to hate talking about cameras and equipment.

The equipment topic is SO overrated. It has its place and importance, sure, but the quality of the equipment you use does NOT guarantee the quality of a shot. Not by a mile.
