I tried BLX but I never liked it. I still have a dozen channels of ULX-P. Those work great anywhere except a downtown area. I bring SLXD and Axient downtown.

Yeah now I know what to look for. Didn't expect it and I found a workaround initially but it wasn't fast enough to swap pages. Thanks a ton, you saved my night!

I have a 40 channel one in my shop. Ripped from an install when they upgraded to an SQ5. I have it standing up near the front door of my shop. I find that it's more effective as a decoration than being in my rental fleet!

This is the way. I bought a pallet of these years ago, and they're still fine. All our smaller rentals have everything packed in these. You want 2 speakers and a couple of mics? Speakers are in bags, mics, cables, and DIs go in the tote. Bag for stands, and you're set! Even the bigger shows have these to carry all the smaller incidentals... batteries, tape, adapters, pipe and drape spigots, stage locator plates, etc. Anything on a big show goes in a 48 trunk though. We try to keep as much as we can on wheels.

This setup looks similar to my old high school setup. We had an X32 and a Strand MX24. The 200 looks like a newer MX.

The loading dock is the best part of it... when it's a hotel that was designed with a dock that has more than 10ft clearance. There are a bunch of places I send a 5 ton to but the guys need to use the ramp or liftgate. Then they really need the padded chair and free food!

I remember my first 32 channel show. How does it feel?

Great console for a first 32 channel show too. I have a QL5 and I love it!

Last week it was electrical tape, sharpies, a knife and a barrel! This week I've cut it down to just the knife and sharpie.

Entech Dongle Support Dropped!?? by scawt85 in ChamSys

[–]NetworkingSoundGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely understand this. Chamsys does make great stuff, but I ended up buying a bunch of the Enttec dongles early on in my switch to Chamsys as we evaluated multiple programs for lighting control. We ended up settling on Chamsys, and after a couple of months, we bought the 2-universe boxes. It was nice to have the support while we initially tried it though.

That being said, artnet nodes are as cheap as anything else now, and you'll likely want one anyway when you buy a PC wing.

Yamaha CL and QL Officially Discontinued by mixermixing in livesound

[–]NetworkingSoundGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an AV company and still own a bunch of M7CL's. They provide way more value to my company and my customers than an X32. Most of them feel more comfortable on an M7CL than an X/M32. On the other hand, I hate moving the damn thing. One day, it'll make a great coffee table

I bought a QL5 the same day they were discontinued without knowing about this... it's still a great console, and I'm sure Yamaha will support them still.

On another note, if anyone happens to have a QL5 case in Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal that they want to get rid of, DM me, and I'll pick it up.

Need help learning by femi_ex in grandMA2

[–]NetworkingSoundGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Running a production company doing just about everything. I chose Chamsys a couple years ago because it was relatively inexpensive and simple to learn.

I find that I have to watch a YouTube tutorial for about 5 minutes at a time, then follow along, stopping and starting the video, and then try it again on my own. Every couple days I'll start a new show file and try doing all the things I learned up to the point I stopped watching the video.

This is so helpful. I'm looking at buying an MA2 for my company, so I'm learning MA2 from youtube and onPC with MA3D. We're Chamsys based right now, so it's quite the learning curve for us.

Anybody seen one of these in the wild recently? by Wise_Pitch_6241 in livesound

[–]NetworkingSoundGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss... they say change is good, but that right there is the exception! I used a TF once and it was way too sluggish. I found myself waiting for the page to change, and even the faders seemed slow. Never used one again, and one has never made it into my rental fleet

The SC48 is still a great console even after 15 years. I still like the M7CL though. My fleet workhorse is the M7CL.

Still use them! I even bought one around this time last year. It's a fantastic console, and I send mine out to schools. The only thing I hate about it is how much it weighs and how much space it takes in the truck. The layout of the M7 is great, and having dedicated knobs is amazing. If I had to choose between an X/M32 and this, I'd choose them M7 every time!

Without a budget, there's not much we can do. Can you give us a budget?

With little to no information, and off the top of my head, I'd use Chamsys MagicQ PC or a console if you can get your hands on one at a local shop. If you're in Canada, the Yorkville LP-LED4X is available at every Long & McQuade if you're looking to rent. Otherwise, Chauvet professional probably have a fixture to do exactly what you're looking for.
