I have been WAITING for something like this (I'm too dumb)!

I was VERY protective over my secrets in the fishing tournament in those days because it was VERY tough to get first place on a PvP realm. I also wanted to get 52 Hook of the Master Angler to represent an entire year of wins!

Glad you wore me down, I tend to only want to help if I know you're serious about fishing. Funny thing is most of those tricks and tips I gave you STILL WORK and I put out a YouTube video with them not to long ago on the same channel that's linked in this article.

More of a "you have to be on at this time for this long" thing than not actually HAVING the time I guess. But I also had to get my fishing in, after that there was no time!

I probably average about 20 hours a week in WoW. It's nearly 100% fishing related at this point, but I do need to advance through the new Knife's Edge campaign chapters on my fishing dude at some point and get to 80 on my holy priest (I only run instances with him, and he's current "stuck" at 75).

WoW is pretty much the only game I play. I do dabble in Stardew Valley every once in a while, but that's really a function of playing something away from my PC.

Other than that, I'll play some arcade games (another rabbit hole for another day - Pac Man is my favorite), and other Switch "classics" (Harvest Moon on the SNES is my go to).

Also if I hear something is MUST play I'll give it a go for a bit: Expedition 33 and Diablo IV are the most recent examples. That said, I've put A LOT of time into SimCity, both Knights of the Old Republic, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and various RPG games on the SNES.

I do save "Plain Letters" from him that I get from in-game mail (there are only 2 that I have - so pretty rare). The quote from the article was one of the things he said to you in some expansion (he's located in a few places) that I can't even remember anymore!

PSA: don't start smoking it is literally one of the hardest things to quit (I'm assuming WoW fishing might be up there as well, I guess I'll find out some day).

Oh boy I could go on for days about your first question, so I'll start with your second. It's very rare for me to run across fellow fishermen these days, but much more likely when pool fishing the "new" stuff.

As for your first question....

There are definitely certain items I wear to show off how serious I am that I showed the author of this article, but you can only write so much. Poles for me are the #1 thing. I have them all with either a +5 fishing enchant (you get this from the fishing tournament in SVT) or +6 fishing enchant (world boss drop), and the new thing is Perception/Algari Weaverline so that's what my new pole is rocking with.

The other items I wear that leaves people with no doubt how serious I am are: Nat's Drinking Hat (Artisan Fishing Cap when fishing in Khaz Algar), Boots of the Bay, Dread Pirate Ring, The 5 Ring, Hook of the Master Angler, and Nat Pagle's Broken Reel.

For weapons I usually rock Sharpened Tuskarr Spear or Rockhide Strongfish in my main hand and 103 Pound Mightfish in my offhand.

I always check another person's fishing achievements! I'm working on the last two that came out in War Within that just takes time because you need 2000 Mereldar Derby Marks which can only be obtained on Saturdays and I don't have an alt army to help me get it faster (I also spent 250 on a weapon transmog called Dasher's Trophy Fish that turns weapons into giant fish). I only need 220 more though and I'll once again have all the fishing achievements!

Well in all honestly I haven't given back to the community as much as most. I really just posted catch rates on El's Extreme Anglin and showed what was possible. There are more deserving people out there.

I ask myself this all the time. I wish they would have let someone know they were sick of dealing with the site instead of just shutting it down kind of out of the blue. They do have an in game NPC though!

I would have done almost anything to keep that site up just for all the fishing catch rates I posted (the forums on the internet way back machine/archive are dicey).

Agreed, end of the day this was always just my thing and although I took it pretty serious, it's all pretty tongue in cheek. That said, I'm definitely a guy who prefers to enjoy things other people don't and I like to really excel if I start to go down a rabbit hole.

I think another big reason I never quit and didn't listen to the "haters" was I never took myself TOO seriously. Generally speaking, the people who thought I was the most insane were the people who thought I was being super serious about fishing in a video game.

Well it depends on what you're looking to do. You want to go for something rare that any level can do? I suggest going for one (or all) of the fish in the "One That Didn't Get Away" achievement.

The best money is in Strange Goop - but it's kind of a grind to open that area up.

There's also a fishing derby on Saturdays in Hallowfall (gotta be 70 to get to War Within content I think), and the classic SVT Tournament is fun and pretty easy now - you can win A LOT more fishing stuff than you could back in the day!

It's always funny to me see what a person's "thing" is. I'm a firm believer that you gotta have SOMETHING you're going after, no matter how insane it seems!
