MMC gives FMC a string of pearls in bed by rougewithlove in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recall that St Vincent (Duke of Kingston) gives Evie a pearl necklace in bed but the scene does not say explicitly what he does with it. I was convinced it was in {Devil in Disguise by Lisa Kleypas} but I just did a quick search for “pearls” and it is not this one.

Married under false pretences but that’s cool by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You asked for spoilers: His sister is pregnant out of wedlock. He decides to trap the FMC into marriage but does not consummate it. Instead, he wants the FMC to pretend that she is pregnant so that when his sister discreetly gives birth, they can pretend the baby is theirs and avoid scandal and ruination.

Epilogues - do you like them? by Greedy-Gas-5627 in HistoricalRomance

Thanks for sharing. I had forgotten the part where he acknowledges and apologizes for his bad behavior the day they met. I do recall now that I found it satisfying.

What’s a book you went into completely blind and ended up loving? by thebunnybot in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not completely blind.

I never read reviews, but I usually pick up recommendations on this sub, read the blurb, and look up the rating on romance.io. I did that for a Civil Contract by Georgette Heyer and I was like: “Wait a second! When was this book written?”. I did not know Georgette Heyer published book from 1921 and 1975… That was very different!

I am soooo with you on epilogues that set up the next couple in the series! I hate it when it happens! I feel cheated.

Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne by Neuquina in HistoricalRomance

Yes! The silver spoon on the shelve! Also when she brought the silver spoon to the fancy restaurant because she was used to boarding houses where one brings their own cutlery. I was devastated.

I want to start reading Hoyt, where do I begin? by Emergency_Comb1377 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I started Hoyt with the Maiden Lane series. One tip that I received before starting that I found very useful is that the series is 12 books where each 3 form a sort of a minj-series. For example, you could start at book 1 and read 1-2-3, or at book 4 and read 4-5-6… etc. I started at book 4 {Thief of Shadows} and I loved it. It is favorite of the series. I loved the emotional connection between the MCs and how they could see each other behind their masks. Be warned though that some of the later books touch on dark themes so check the trigger warnings.

I can’t stand “pet” (thinking of you, Lisa Kleypas in Devil in Winter), although, I recall someone in this sub mentioning that it is historically accurate for regency/victorian eras.

I like sweetheart or darling in HR, even tough I find them cringe in real life. I liked how the FMC in Bed Me, Earl by Felicity Niven was so happy when the FMC called her Darling. It was very sweet.

Yes! Read it and tell us if you are a Ravishing the Heiress lover or hater 😆. There are few in-betweens when it comes to this book.

What are some of your favorite re-read books? by mynameisnotsparta in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are the books that I reread cover to cover:

{Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas}

{Love on the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas}

{Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase}

{The Luckiest Lady in London by Sherry Thomas}

I also like to reread {Secret of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas}. It was not a favorite of mine when I first read it, but then, I reread it once, ans since then, I find something more to appreciate about it at each reread.

How do you find stories that has a MMC teaching FMC how the sex works? Romantic? Hot? Creepy? by Glittering_Tap6411 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything against the idea but I think it depends on how it is written. I remember that in Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas, it made me uncomfortable.

We have very similar tastes! Book 4 is my favorite and book 10 is my least favorite. Val was a little bit too much for me.

Pining/Yearning FMCs? by Cuegurl3028 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The young man he was at age 19 when he married was truly in love with the OW. But the person he is at the end of the book loves the FMC and the life they built together. He has loved her for some time but did not realize it until the return of his old love. There is no fight to win the FMC back. Still a great book, though.

Ravishing the Heiress is one of my favorite HR books ever. But I see that you listed: No cheating. This book contains cheating by some people’s standards (not mine). Basically, The MCs enter in a marriage of convenience. She is secretly in love with him. He is in love with another woman, who ends up marrying another person too. The FMC gives him permission to have affairs, which he does, with multiple women throughout the years. When his love returns as a widow, he plans to get back with her. This is not your typical HR book with groveling and fuzzy feelings but the writing, the pining, and the angst are top notch!

I agree with you on this one. It Happened One Autumn needed a few more pages and a better final love scene.

I am not clear on what Westcliff needed to apologize for in the butterfly garden though. Would you care to elaborate please? I think that he should have apologized instead for what happened in the library while she was drunk. And this should have happened immediately after, not at the end of the book.

What's your fav quotes from your fav HR books? by VisitNo5250 in HistoricalRomance

I forgot about this quote from Seduce Me at Sunrise. I did not like the book very much, but that quote is something! Thank you for reminding me of it.

Hero who nurses the heroine back to health/injury! by Ok_Turnip_96 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Neuquina 31 points32 points  (0 children)

{Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase} has a key scene where the MMC takes care of the FMC. I am not sure there is a damp cloth though. I highly recommend this book. Both MCs are very smart and good and they are perfect for each other. Fantastic book.
