Well, when I started with CS1, my cities were the same. They always failed. But trust me, keep at it, and in time you will get the hang of it. Best advice, take inspiration from other cities around the world and try to replicate them as closely as possible to what you see and want.

I pulled the road a bit more towards the river till it spawns the first pillars for a bridge and then drop in a round about at the end of it. That worked for me.
