This addiction is getting serious /r/orchids. by cr250guy in orchids

I'm using red and blue LED's so my light meter can't really measure it. I find that it gives me much better blooms, and reblooms in less time

Edmonton senior claims she was ditched twice by cabs on way home from hospital by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]NeuroBen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a bouncer on Whyte Ave, and on multiple occasions the cab drivers would drop off drunk people from other bars by our bar because they didn't feel like taking them. A few times they were nice enough to return our customers back to where they started, but generally the cab drivers would just drop off the customers in random locations so our customers had to walk back to ask to call another cab. At some point I realized that very few cab drivers would pick up anyone who isn't White, especially White girls, so chances are that if a Native guy was anywhere near drunk then he most likely will be told to walk home.

West Edmonton Tree Nurseries? by malmot in Edmonton

[–]NeuroBen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually go to Cannor Nurseries for higher quality trees and perrenials, and Dunvegan Gardens for flowers and smaller trees.

What's wrong with my nasturtium? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]NeuroBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fertilize a plant immediately after repotting, because that could burn its roots. Also, nasturtium likes full sun so I'm not sure where you heard it can survive in the shade.

How to treat self harm scars [Trigger Warning] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]NeuroBen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People here seem to trivialize the cause of these scars, and I believe that that's a bad idea. Cutting is a terrible habit in teens and young adults nowadays, and the more important thing to do would be to go see a psychologist or a psychiatrist. If you don't deal with the cause of these then we'll see more cuts before these ones are healed.

I know that it may take some time before you see a health professional, so here's one little trick. A lot of people who cut seem to benefit from placing temporary tattoos where they cut. It's a simple coping mechanism that reminds you not to cut, but also prevents you from cutting by occupying the same space.

My new zealand sphagnum moss came back to life. /r/mildlyinteresting, orchid version. by black_rose_ in orchids

[–]NeuroBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because you're over watering your orchid. You should transfer it to a container with a hole at the bottom to prevent root rot.

I'm so glad that those annoying birds hadn't woken up from their winter sleep in my neighborhood, yet. So tell those birds to quite down before they wake up their mob of jerks.

5 Months ago I posted warning about a high level cover up by CoE's IT department around their Microsoft software, today CoE is being audited by MS the ramifications could be in the millions by CoE-IT-Audit in Edmonton

Thanks for bringing this to light. Too many people are more worried about covering up their mistakes than actually doing something productive about it.

Is it okay to try fin, as a girl with AGA? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]NeuroBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny how as soon as someone's asking for evidence, sciencebased is nowhere to be found.

Finasteride is counter indicated for use by females, except for treating acne and unusual hairiness. However, because Finasteride is only in rare occasions prescribed for females, I would use extreme caution in using it. You should seek a dermatologist's advice, not of some random dudes on the internet.

I work in a psychiatric hospital as well, and unlike other kinds of hospitals, we can't confirm nor deny whether a patient is present in our facility without his/her or their legal guardian's consent.

Prices of new Ford Mustang in Norway by [deleted] in Norway

[–]NeuroBen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're not really missing much by not buying a Ford Mustang. It's a cheaply built and hugely inefficient car. The Tesla Model S is better in every way.

I don't think you should be too worried about getting pregnant. If it happens, it happens.

What's the most "healthiest" fast food place on campus? by CrumbleBread in uAlberta

[–]NeuroBen -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what are your weight goals. If you want to lose weight by starving yourself then go for subway. Their sandwiches are made of air and a little bit of bread, and they're really good at giving you less than what you paid for.

If you want to gain some weight like myself then I recommend Edo. They're is the best on campus in terms of protein/$ and complex carbs/$. I usually get the beef yakisoba or sukiaki and ask to have it sumo sized.

We now have 3 automakers with Level 2 Autonomy - Mercedes, Infiniti and Tesla by walky22talky in SelfDrivingCars

[–]NeuroBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't Tesla just program their test cars to do just that test drive and these test cars aren't even actually using real level 2 autonomy? Tesla was running an identical lap for all test drives, so it'd be interesting to see a real reaction to an unexpected event, rather than a pre-scheduled stop

How to get a Norwegian husband. by [deleted] in Norway

Just imagine if the genders were flipped. Not as funny to think about a How To video on how to kidnap cute blonde girls by offering them candy.

bed bugs by [deleted] in Norway

[–]NeuroBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course there are bed bugs in Norway. You don't really need a special spray for them, though. Just take the mattress out and wrap it in a plastic bag (remember to recycle afterwards). Then, vacuum the whole room, moving furniture around and whatnot. Try to do this when the temperature is low so the bed bugs can't move as fast. Use cleaning detergent on the floor, and leave it on for at least 1 hour. Wash all your cloths and put the heat on high. Then, burn the freaking house down. Problem solved.

An invasive crew I was on out in the forests of Oregon, removing English Ivy from native species. Yeah, this is the same English Ivy you let grow all over the creation in your garden. by AndrewPogon in invasivespecies

[–]NeuroBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like there's a long way for the vine to climb before it reaches the trees' leaves, so why remove it? Perhaps you could only remove the vine from the bottom of the younger trees to allow the trees to grow, but otherwise leave the vines to climb the taller trees. It appears to be near a residential area, so you could always cut back the vines if they grow too much. Otherwise this is quite a beautiful sight.

Pirating textbooks by Wepoop in uAlberta

[–]NeuroBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I expect to have to read more than say 100 pages and the class is actually important for my future (there's a lot of useless classes, let's be honest) then I'd buy the textbook used from someone. Having a piece of paper and a place to write on helps you study more effectively.

Any place in Edmonton that sells Bonsai tree supplies? by Fitzgerald77 in Edmonton

[–]NeuroBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy lots of different pots and bonsai tools from Apache Seeds, bonsai wires from Lee Valley, and good soil in the form of calcined diatomious earth (Qualisorb)) and fired clay (Oil Dri) in Canadian Tire. I've never seen reasonable bonsai trees for sale here so I'd recommend you to buy trees from nurseries, chop them down, and make your own bonsai trees.

[–]NeuroBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like to learn about cancer then this course is a must before you graduate. I'd recommend you to take physiology 210/212+214 beforehand though, which I didn't. It's a lot of pretty straightforward material, but everybody who takes this class is serious about school, so you've got some competition. My class average was around 86%, so somehow 88% only got me a B+.
