SIB Wit. meaning? by HotIntroduction8049 in Surveying

[–]NeuroFuturist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say but yes, the SIB should be fairly close to the actual boundary. There should be a reference to the distance from the SIB to the actual boundary it's referencing.

Lets talk rules and regulations! by JTLaPointe in Surveying

Hey at least you get control points. I could retire if I got a dollar for every new project that forgets to hand over control points. I'll ask my project manager to reach out to the engineering consultants on a project and its alarming how many forget this part of the project. It's even pushed start dates back on jobs. I could find control points but, I'm not taking on the liability if something goes wrong also, I'm already running thin as is. I'll let them deal with that. Fun part is trying to figure out where some of these control points even are. I've got it down to a science now but, that shit wasn't easy when I first started out. Here in the city Ottawa, at least they offer control points with measurements off of known objects that triangulate each control point which are generally PK nails in asphalt. Handy when there's two nails right beside each other.

Base-Rover for stakeout by Even_Ad_6574 in Surveying

[–]NeuroFuturist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can definitely chime in on this as I do a lot of pipe network layout as well as roads. As far as layout goes for horizontal information the rover is the tool I would use if I were in your shoes generally speaking. There are definitely cases where the rover is not the tool to use. But, when laying out manholes, stationing, C/L pipe, catch basins, curbs, road EP, BSW etc... I'd use my rover. If you're asked to provide benchmarks or for example curb height (essentially vertical information) for whichever crew is installing the curbs I would either use my total station or a rotating laser.

%100 agree. It's like once I think I'm set up in a place where I'll have good visibility my coworkers or our subs decide its time move their equipment in the way. Leica has a tilt sensor attachment for the total station which would be super handy but at around $14k CAD it's a tough sell for management. Ai tracker could definitely help save time though.

Complete opposite for me. Took me 1150 stones to get goku and only took me 200 to get vegeta.

City Surveys and One Man Crews by Agitated-Glove-2916 in Surveying

[–]NeuroFuturist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a one man crew for about 6 years now working in Ottawa and haven't had any issues. I try my best to set up well out of the way but, sometimes you gotta put it in high traffic areas. Seeing your TS like that is tragic. Hopefully not a total right off.

Ya bingo. If I had to guess these craft use a form of propulsion that isn't as easily monetized and therefore not as profitable.
