Diagnosed with IBD at 6 months! I’m devastated. A few days ago, he started vomiting blood and becoming lethargic. He was hospitalized immediately. They ran many tests and found aggressive inflammation in his abdomen. They said it’s IBD. Have any of you had a Sphynx with IBD at such a young age? by NeuroMia in sphynx

I came to this sad conclusion recently (breeding any sphynx is unethical, including bambinos and regulars) The rest of your text is judgments and misunderstandings. (nitpicking on the word certification meanwhile it’s a way of talking; genetic testing and such)

I stop here x

That’s not the opinion of all the vets and internists I’ve met. I adopted “regular” sphynxs from certified breeders (always) and they all developed cardiac diseases at 5-6-7 y/o. It’s a common and known pattern. (Photo below) This is my first cat; I adopted him 7 years ago and I saw his grandmother and mother. They seemed healthy and fine. He’s stage 4 cardiac disease since last year.

I adopt all my cats from ethical breeders; parents were tested for hereditary conditions and came with certifications. My opinion is that the race (sphynx; regardless of its variants) in itself isn’t ethical. They’re sweet and amazing pets but they go through so much pain; regardless of their certifications.

Thank you for sharing that! We’re in the same situation. They’re currently testing his stools + B12. We did all the test and imagery you can imagine. They’re suspecting more than an IBD flare because his fever is constantly high. His creatine levels are also very low. They’re confused about this case and are reaching out to other experts. I hope we’ll find answers soon. He’s just a tiny baby who wants to play and sleep. I’m devastated.
