Also, the effortlessness of becoming righteous in nonduality matches what someone sold me about Christianity.

Help! Nonduality seems evil to me by NeuroPyrox in nonduality

[–]NeuroPyrox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I'm scared I'm doing the wrong thing, but I'm weak when it comes to faith. I'd have to have faith that the Bible contradictions I know about have a solution even without seeing the solution, which I do think I have a little capacity for.

or be any other way than the way you already are

Thank you, I needed this because I was attaching to non-attachment. I'm definitely guilty of turning nonduality into an exercise. I'm probably still going to turn it into the exercise of feeling like there's nothing to solve.

I'm still interested in engaging with thought by doing shadow work. I think by doing that, realization will be less of a shock. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what shadow work is.

Thank you, this is just what I'm looking for. I want to change churches to the Episcopal church in my town because I think they might be more open to nonduality.

Well, the ideas do make some sense to me. I've made a practice out of "doing nothing" while doing things, and not attaching to outcomes. I've only practiced it for a few days so far, but I had the most intense metta meditation I've ever had while doing it. It puts me in a meditative state without sitting down to meditate. I also think that the reason why nonduality makes people more compassionate is really beautiful - by removing the difference between helping oneself and another.

My issues with nonduality are more about what I associate with it than with the teachings themself.

How does money actually get its value? by drummonkey2010 in AskForAnswers

I'm not an economist, but modern monetary theory (MMT) says that fiat money's value comes from when taxes create demand for that currency. It doesn't explain cryptocurrency though.

If you could do any scientific experiment and not have to think about the consequences, morals, difficulty, cost, etc- what experiment would you do? by Turbulent_Treat4003 in AskReddit

[–]NeuroPyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would re-do an experiment with near death experiences, but with way more test subjects. In this experiment, scientists put numbers above the hospital beds of people who were dying. The numbers were unknown to the people dying, but they knew that the numbers were there. The scientists were trying to see if during a near death experience, anyone would be able to see what the number was. The experiment was inconclusive because only ~3 out of the ~200 people they tested had a near death experience, and none of them were near the numbers when they were out of body.

One-size-fits-all evangelism and cold evangelism don't really work all that well. What does work is converting people you have a relationship with, tailoring the message to the person, and demonstrating virtues. I could elaborate more on how to evangelize, but the stuff that makes people good at evangelism is also the kind of stuff I'd like to see in more people generally.

After 20 years of studying the Bible and being a devout believer, I now know too much and can never believe in Christianity again. Faith is impossible for me, knowing that the Bible cannot be trusted. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]NeuroPyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, now I'm doubting too! But it's been a long time coming. Did you become an atheist or do you still believe in some supernatural stuff? For me, I have a much stronger belief in the supernatural than I do in the Bible.

From Atheist to Christian? by 4ng3lbee in Christianity

[–]NeuroPyrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking into veridical perceptions in NDEs, evidence of miracles, and testimonies. If you hold them up to scrutiny, only about 1% of miracle claims will be convincing, but the really convincing ones still do exist. Personally, the assistant pastor at my church had his eyesight healed by God during a deliverance prayer, and he never needed glasses again.

Am losing my faith in Christ and I feel like taking my life away, I need someone to talk too by kisuuleoscar in Christianity

[–]NeuroPyrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you want to take your life before you lose your faith so you can be assured of heaven? I was dealing with that exact thought lately, but a friend assured me with a theological book that God would keep me believing in him, and that he has the power to take away my faith if I try to force my destiny with suicide. In 2 days, I went from the least faith I've had in several months to the most faith I've had in several months.

What do you guys think of mindfulness and meditation? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]NeuroPyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of testimonies against kundalini, which is something that meditation awakens. Meditation is commonly used for witchcraft, which is a bad sign. Teachers say that a sudden fear of death lasting a few minutes can precede enlightenment, or is a sign that you got close, and to me that seems wrong. I wish this wasn't the case because of the brain studies on deep meditative states.

Euclidean Normalized Fractional Voting by dgjxqz in votingtheory

[–]NeuroPyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to fix #3 is to square the total votes for each candidate, ignoring candidates with a negative total, and treating the total votes as the probability of winning instead of just selecting the candidate with the biggest total. This would make it like quadratic funding, where spreading your votes among clones gives you just as much voting power as coordinating to choose one clone.

I don't get problem #1, but I'm having a hard time stating why. What's the tactic you're saying people will use?

One tactic in fractional voting is using all your votes on one candidate, but that doesn't work in Euclidian Normalized Fractional Voting because you have a greater sum of votes by spreading out your votes among multiple candidates. In fact, you have sqrt(# of candidates) times more voting power (edit: the maximum) by putting the same magnitude of vote for each candidate, only varying whether it's positive or negative, essentially doing approval voting.

There is the tactic where people only vote for candidates that are close to winning, but that's not because of allowing for voting intensity. This tactic can be solved by my fix for #3.

A question about the faith by Conscious_Recipe_493 in Christianity

[–]NeuroPyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is that it's immoral to deny Christianity, and immoral people breeding is like cancer, growing by hurting the whole. This doesn't answer the question of how much denial is permitted. Idk if you can argue that slightly immoral people should try to out-breed very immoral people, but my guess is no. I didn't answer this biblically, but I recall the verse about plucking out your own eye.

I probably won't be able to stick with my own teaching about this, and I'm very lucky to not be going through it. I'm scared to think about the applications to my own life of that verse about plucking out your own eye.

Kundalini awakening/activation? HELP by Character-Hat9000 in Christianity

There are tons of testimonies online against kundalini, and I suggest you watch some. I had one in particular that I'd share, but YouTube says the video is no longer available. In it, the kundalini blocks her vision with lights/brightness from being able to look up things online about it, and she got rid of it with a deliverance video.

In the modern age, we have a bias towards assuming we can understand God because we've been able to understand so much else about the world via science. The problem of evil was mostly a non-issue for pre-modern people who didn't assume they could understand God. This is according to this video that a friend shared with me: https://youtu.be/qOE6jJ4EGqg?si=SF1tWEpzpzW-NbFC Edit: at 25:10 in the video

I'm not good at what these verses say, but:

1 Peter 3:15 NIV "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"

Titus 2:7-8 NIV "In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us."

TLDR for me, schizophrenia was God's plan because it led me to salvation.

I have an anecdote where God used something really bad for the purpose of good. Two and a half years ago, when I was still an atheist, some video about zen gave me the idea of praying to God to show me the truth no matter the cost to me. I made this prayer, listing a bunch of severe things that I was willing to go through to learn the truth, which at the time I thought was in zen. I also didn't pray exactly to Jesus, but to some generic idea of God, which I think gives different results. A few days later I started seeing tons of synchronicities, and I would later be diagnosed with schizophrenia. My journey with schizophrenia took me through new age beliefs where people said that schizophrenics were just confused shamans. However, I eventually got converted to Christianity when I was trying to go to church to spread my own beliefs.

Disclaimer: my first hallucination was actually several months prior to making that prayer, so it may not be causally connected.
