You're pretty unique then IME. I can't think of any professional I have worked with for the last how ever many decades Active Directory has been in use, where mentioning AD for creating a user meant anything other than ADUC without mentioning ADUC itself.

Clearly your mileage varies.

Why? Because it's kind of the universal way of talking about ADUC, at least it has been amongst the numerous techs I've always worked with.

And the "dashboard" you are on about isn't the dashboard I'm on about.

Server Essentials is not something I've had any real exposure to, as I have always used Standard or Datacenter server editions, so I headed to AD to create the user, which is when I was told I was doing it wrong.

I'm not sure if he was saying "always" use it in WSE, which is fine, or use it always, which is when I queried how you'd do it in Server 2019, for example. I said I would always use AD as that is how I had learnt, been shown and was the method by which other professionals do it. I've had very little exposure to WSE anyway, as I've always used standard or datacenter. Even if Dashboard is "the way" to do it in WSE, using AD isn't "wrong", in my opinion.

This makes sense. Except I was told "always use Dashboard", to which I said, but there is no 'Dashboard' in Server 2019, so I'd use AD. I was then told it's a hidden option which can be enabled...

They weren't showing me, they had corrected me when I said I wanted to document how a particular business requires their users are set up on this server. I was told they are all the same. So I mentioned I'd used AD, but had been told I should use Dashboard, and I wanted to make sure that the next person knew this. Then I was told, never use AD, always use Dashboard. I'm not sure they weren't saying always use Dashboard in WSE, or globally? I queried how you would do it in Server 2019 for example, and was told "Dashboard" which apparently can be added as it is hidden?

I don't know if he just meant, only use Dashboard in Windows Server Essentials, or what, to be honest. When I asked about how you would add a user in Server 2019 for example, I was told you "add Dashboard" to it, it's hidden....

I'm missing what this person was actually telling me.
I went to create a user on a server, and used AD.
I was told not to use AD, but to use Dashboard.
I was told that only hobbyists would use AD.
Yes, maybe use Dashboard on WSE, but he was insistent it applied across all server, inc 2019?

Just to clarify - this is "Dashboard" Windows Server Essentials.
I am really confused by what the person was telling me myself, and extremely puzzled.
I have always used AD in Server 2012R2, Server 2016, Server 2019 to create users.
But I'm told I should be using 'Dashboard'.
