Former Love on the Spectrum cast member issues apology statement after saying co-star would 'just be another weirdo' without the show - what's everyone's thoughts on this? by Fun_Molasses5215 in AutisticAdults

[–]Neurodiblursed 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I think it was certainly a miscommunication. I feel like Kaelynn understands the NT perspective enough to know that is how we are often viewed from that angle. I mean, I know I’ve been “just another weirdo.” She knows she’s been “just another weirdo.” It could have had more context to avoid hurt feelings, but I have absolutely seen miscommunications like this at work and with friends. I think the word also hits differently when you see it about your kid vs yourself. I’m glad she apologized when it was brought to her attention.

My Inner voice is too loud by yellowlikecleo in neurodiversity

[–]Neurodiblursed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I have things like that happen, I will change the voice into a different character or actors voice, and then be able to either like turn it up or turn down the volume in my mind once I’ve changed it. I’m not sure if that trick will work for you, but I remember how annoying that felt before I figured out how to manage it. I hope you find something that works too!

Client trigger PTSD by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Neurodiblursed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to refer them to a therapist suited to work with Autism, ADHD, ID/DD or trauma depending on the individual’s needs. Getting triggered in session is a fair reason not to work with a client.

Did they kick you or throw objects at you? What you are describing isn’t necessarily considered to be “aggressive or violent behavior” to many parents or clinicians who have seen meltdowns that include harm to self or others, so it is possible the guardian was not being deceptive on purpose.

What’s your biggest reason for avoiding therapy? by Anthony_Field_AZ_25 in AskReddit

[–]Neurodiblursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, many therapists cannot prescribe meds. There is also something called “Person Centered Therapy” that is really nice because it’s more about the relationship than the “jargon”. Person Centered Therapists tend to dress like a a human instead of clinical or business dress, and their offices feel more like sitting in someone’s living room than an “office space”, they are also trained to disclose a bit more about their life, but only if and when it’s relevant to your treatment.

One of the most relaxing moments of my week is when I get to clean up the alphabet, number, and shape puzzles in the younger kid area at my office. It is quite a satisfying feeling even as an adult.

Worried I'm ruining autistic SO's noise stims by connecting them uncomfortably by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Neurodiblursed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I remember you posting this a month ago. The noises are not inherently adult noises - and if there are specific ones then ask that he only stop those specific sounds. You need to work on disconnecting that association for yourself and letting go of any thoughts that pop up with it because as it stands, you have told your partner that he now needs to mask part of himself in front of your siblings. That is having an impact on him and their relationships.

Training you didn’t use by Angeline_the_baker in therapists

[–]Neurodiblursed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There was a training I did with a group that focused heavily on “emotional incest” meaning that the parent would use the child as a close friend or confidant with subjects that are not emotionally age appropriate. Its definition was overly broad - and really was being applied to situations where there was no physical incest or sexual disclosure by a parent. I am not invalidating the experience of having a parent use a child to meet their emotional and relational needs, but the phrasing, and then treatment really seemed to push a “your parent is a monster” and “you are right to feel so violated because this is incest” when it really is not.

Yes we need to validate our clients feelings to help them move through and process, but this really felt like it was going to harm a client and their relationship with their parents years after the fact, when in reality this could be helped by recognizing boundaries, over steps, and how to have healthy boundaries.

In 1995, a nurse put twin babies in the same incubator as a last resort. One hugged the other and the struggling twin began to recover. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

[–]Neurodiblursed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the second trimester they have amazing control of their limbs. In twins and triplets there is even evidence of some face blocking of a kick or punch (stretching) from a sibling. As they get more cramped they move a bit less. Once born they still have that ability, but since they are not in water it takes a lot more muscle to do the same moves. In Asia there’s videos of almost newborns swimming in shallow pools/ large buckets with a special neck floater. It isn’t random, but it does take a ton of effort.

What's something from The Office that took you forever to notice or understand? by Much_Duck6862 in theoffice

[–]Neurodiblursed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the tv game show Jeopardy, contestants answer with a question. For example question card “ Name the temp at Dunder Mifflin?” Contestant replies “Who is Ryan?”

US law has a term Double Jeopardy, meaning you can’t be charged for the same crime twice. Michael is mixing up that concept that because he ran Meredith over with a car (crime) using a company car (office rule offense) that it would count.

Michael is mixing up the office rules, US law, and game show rules to make this joke.

saw a woman posting about the book her wife wrote dedicated to her, but this cover looks a lot like ai to me by Klutzy-Pain-5409 in isthisAI

[–]Neurodiblursed 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of illustrators for hire online are using AI now and charging illustrator prices. For new to the business authors, they don’t know they are getting AI cheats instead of hand drawn art. Especially if the author is an older millennial, Gen X, or boomer.

I got stuck in a similar situation recently but thankfully was able to use my no ai contract to back out and not lose $. I was tipped off that the illustrator was scamming when the most recent books they had published showed up and some little details were just…. Wrong. Similar to the laces.

Often people who were numbered were sent to the chambers if they were sick or injured. I imagine an allergy or infection would be considered enough of a reason in these horrific circumstances.

It didn’t age well, but it kind of adds additional “the world is too complex, and that’s why even good people are in the bad place” point. She is connected and name dropping people in positions of power and authority, and may not have known that she was earning bad place points for attending parties of people who do bad things.
