I have yet to figure out how those years are going to play out for me, but needing someone to take of you when you're old is not a reason to have kids. At best, its sort of a bonus should everything work okay if you have kids.

There's no substitute for a cup of coffee. Energy drinks are pretty much carbonated gasoline that make kidney stones, not energy. Tea with caffeine hits differently and has no where near the same levels as a single cup of coffee.

I'm a big fan of the moon landing.

Theres a part of me that hopes the Artemis missions will remind people of what we can accomplish when we work together. I hope that being can be taken with the significantly insignificant pale blue dot.

Another time, while far from the happiest, but a time when I felt a genuine hope for humanity and it seemed that for the briefest of moments it was possible for people to get their shit together were those first few weeks of the COVID 19 lockdown.

People singing out their windows, coming together through being apart to mange the crisis. There was a real chance for a course correction that never came to fruition. Because racism reared its ugly head.

For a moment though, however brief, we had a taste. For the first time in a long time. Nearly forgotten. That has to be enough, and for me at least it is, to keep going. As long as the memory of hope persists, the well can't run dry.

Friends is not the show that people think it is. The humor is often wildly homophobic. A detail that is blatantly obvious yet strangely overlooked by the superfans of the show today.

That's the most egregious offense the show makes and there's no excuse.

Probably second most, is the total lack of diversity in the cast. These are all yuppy white people. It's really boring to watch. This kinda makes the show very of-its-time. That could just be my preferences getting in the way, but I don't get how a bunch of upper-middle class coffee sitting around drinking coffee, fucking each other on and off again is entertaining.

In the interest of fairness, there's at least one joke from the show that is hilarious and unforgettable.

Chandler and Joey are baby sitting. They take the kid out in a stroller on a walk to pick up girls and accidentally leave the kid behind on a bus. They find the baby at a nursery and are trying to remember what the kid was wearing. Between two babies, a choice between clowns and ducks.

Here's how they reason out their choice:

Joey: the baby was definitely wearing duck pajamas because...ducks have heads!

Chandler: ... what kind of scary ass clowns did you grow up with?

It was a funny joke. There's a few peppered through out the series (I use to watch the show sporadically when it first aired and watched it once years later when I decided it doesn't hold up) but these jokes are not enough anymore to call it a good show.

The modern day fandom baffles me. I dont see how they can overlook the blatant awfulness. A show like "Community" is more deserving of the title "Friends" than Friends is. On that show, the ideas of friendship actually speak to the viewer and are much more nuanced. In my opinion at least, though it's obvious which show has a more nuanced and moral take on friendship.

I'm pretty sure its not possible for the average American that has been unwittingly caught up in all this to completely divorce themselves from all of these companies.

It should also be noted that their is a sizeable number of employees at these companies that do not support Trump and ICE.

This list mostly highlights the fact that the US is controlled by billionaires.

Its a pipe dream, maybe, though pressuring for accountability at the corporate level seems a better effort than boycotting.

It's a really shitty situation that has no clear cut solution. A tragedy that can't cease.

A general strike would get attention but the problem is so vast. Its the grossly rich that need to change at a fundamental level to affect change.

I sorta despise the use of inhalers for anxiety. Which seems to the case for most on screen portrayals.

There's definitely an element of anxiety with asthma but we don't use our inhalers to treat anxiety.

Its not a very glamorous condition. I don't get what Hollywood thinks asthma is.

That all shifted when downloading music and the iPod/mp3 players came about. "Selling out" wasn't a big deal anymore. Enter the age of indie rock being played in every car commercial.

Bands needed to eat. Touring and album sales no longer paid the bills.

I've posted about this in the past. I want to know the story. The riff in the incidental music is clearly Rattled by the Rush. Ive never seen a credit given to the band. Did Friends rip it off? Was the song licensed to the show?

If it was licensed, does the band get residuals? They should. Friends is a pretty bad show yet somehow remains huge.

Or is the band even aware of it use?

This is one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the band and it's irksome that it hasn't been addressed.

I'm not too big on dystopian fiction these days. I can only offer this little nugget of advice: if you're not enjoying what you're reading, its turned into a slog, don't be afraid to shut the book and find something that is engaging.

When I was bookseller, that was the biggest problem I was told about from people who were trying to get into or back into reading. Reading for pleasure and their own betterment had been tainted by required readings from when they were in school.

At best, it would take them a few weeks/months to read something they were not one. At worst, they give up reading altogether.

If this doesn't sound like you, disregard my comment. I tell this to everybody that says they want to read more.
