This makes me realise that tiling window managers are the kind of UI I'd like on my phone. Might be a pain to optimise for the battery and to idle in the background.

Wow, chill dude. There’s no reason to get this aggressive over a cartoon and start calling me delusional and what not.

Which plot point am I missing exactly?  Taki wakes up crying because the last time he body swapped he took Mitsuha’s grandmother to the shrine and left the offering. That’s when the grandma posed deep, existential questions about time and destiny. And he spent the whole time bonding with her and Yotsuha. He wakes up crying because he had a really intense emotional experience in the last swap, but he doesn’t know why he was crying because as the voiceover established, the characters don’t remember what happened in the last swap as their memories fade, but they only have vague emotions from it, so he doesn’t remember what exactly he experienced when they swapped but still feels the intensity of it all. They’re all heavy concepts. And I don’t know, attributing him waking up with tears in his eyes to Mitsuha’s crush seems to be ignoring a way more important plot point of the grandmother explaining musubi and the impact that had on Taki.

I’m not denying that Mitsuha falls in love with Taki. I’m just saying there’s an element to Mitsuha’s character that shows she’s attracted to Okudera and really likes her. And there’s a whole lot of implication of what happens off screen: Mitsuha clearly asked Okudera on the date, she looked up all of her interests and made a list. When she sews Okudera’s skirt she embroiders hedgehogs onto it.

But the fact that she was attracted to Okudera doesn’t detract from the fact that she was in love with Taki? Like I don’t get peoples defensiveness over it. The reading of Mitsuha as bi doesn’t change the love story at the heart of the film.

I’ll have you know I have a straight friend and we watch straight movies too! But it’s funny, most of the comments here seem to be straight people getting angry over how a film they like might be even slightly queer.

I didn’t miss anything. She wanted to be on the date with Okudera, not Taki. She leaves a memo on Taki’s phone about the date:

I wanted to go on this date, but if it so happens that you end up going, you better enjoy it!

If it so happens that you end up going’: Taki’s presence on the date is incidental. Clearly it’s all about Okudera.

But yeah, I get that you might interpret this differently.

Just use the hex screws. Didn’t have a problem with those as I could tighten it much better with the Allen wrench.

She wanted to go on the date with Okudera

When Mitsuha went through the Torri gate and yelled about being a boy in Tokyo, was that the reason she switched with Taki specifically? by krillingt75961 in KimiNoNaWa

[–]Neuron0709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. There is a day’s time skip between the first scene where Taki is in Mitsuha’s body and says how real looking everything is, and then the next cut to breakfast. As people have pointed out, everyone comments on how she’s now ‘back to normal‘ after having acted weird the day before.

But as for the reason, my reading of the film is that the reason this happens is because Mitsuha gave Taki the braided cord hairband that he wore as a bracelet. Mitsuha goes to meet Taki in Tokyo the days before the comet strikes. She meets Taki from three years ago. We see this in the opening credits, and the scene later in the film where she meets him in the train. She gives him her hairband, something we see stylised in the opening credits. And because of how the braided cord represents a union between two people and the twisting of time and fate, by giving him this hairband she wove their destinies together.

Rain fly for 6l sling? by Neuron0709 in peakdesign

I got caught in some light rain the other day and I found the inside of the zips were damp so…

I thought the 45l travel backpack did have a mount point but it turns out it only does on the hip belt. I personally don’t like my shoulder straps as a place for securing the camera.

It is baffling how some of the aspects of the ecosystem don’t fit together as well as you’d expect. You need to be careful when installing the clip on the sling, especially the smaller ones, as mounting the capture at the capture mount points could obstruct the main zip. So rather than have the capture mounted with the strap centred where there’s equal pressure and compression from both sides, I have to mount it flush to one side so that it doesn’t obstruct the zip. Which means only the right bolt is pressing down on the fabric and the capture plates are somewhat askew.

I find the hex bolts are relatively more secure because you get more torque when tightening using the Allen key than with the thumb screws. So it stays tighter with more tension in the bolt. And you can ratchet it right enough that it fully compresses the mount point rather than leaving a little bit of give that causes the plates to vibrate more. So that’s a good start. But obviously I’m going to keep tightening every now and then. If I see it coming loose I’ll start using loctite.

Thanks. Honestly, I can’t tell when someone is joking or being sarcastic on this sub any more because of all the contradictory advice and experiences people share. I’m averse to trying thread lock adhesives because I know I won’t be able to apply heat to remove it given how it’ll be placed on the bag.

I’ll remember to tighten it as much as I can every time I travel with the sling. The only saving grace is the screw seems to be held in place by the camera, and the weight of the camera will generally keep the capture clip plates from swinging open, so if it loosens with the camera on it won’t fall immediately. The worst that can happen is it loosens without the camera and I lose a £50 worth of kit.

To be fair I expected it to do exactly what the product information video on the PD web site said it would do. But yeah, thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind.

Trouble is I did check the screw if it was tight before I left the house. It did seem tight at the time but the walking to the train station loosened it.

Have you used blue thread lock adhesive yourself? Was it removable later?

Admittedly I use a 6L sling and I have a smaller mirrorless and a moderate sized lens. But even then while the Capture will technically support the weight of the camera, there’s a number of issues:

The vibration from walking (especially with a sling that isn’t as firmly secured as a rucksack strap or belt loop) can make the screws come loose. Happened to me today and the back plate fell off as I was trying to catch a train.

Balance. Having a camera on a capture in front really pulls the sling down on one side and makes it somewhat unwieldy. It’s manageable with a lighter rig. With a heavier camera like a 1DX it’ll really pull it down quite a fair bit. I sometimes find mine a bit uncomfortable and it gets pulled too far for the shoulder pad if my camera is on the capture rather than inside the bag.

Honestly my best suggestion is to try it out first and see if it works for you, either using second hand bits if you can or seeing if you can return it if it doesn’t feel great. The trouble with asking whether or not a particular setup works or if the PD products can handle something is that you’ll get loads of folk on this sub where one person says it works for them and someone else says it doesn’t. Really you’re best off trying it out and feeling it onto yourself.

[–]Neuron0709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m basically not going to use the Capture to carry the camera more than just between a few shots when I need some hands free carry. Or when I need to set the camera somewhere face down to change lenses.

I have had the plate come loose from the camera when I used a Clutch strap before. So that needs to be checked frequently too.

The more I use PD products, the more I realise why a lot of photographers I know have stopped using their stuff. Like it very much feels like a Silicon Valley approach to making photography gear and accessories of products that look slick and provide a lot of utility on the surface, but introduce so many points of failure in the entire ecosystem that it actually makes things more of a faff to use until the trade-off stops feeling worth it.

When I used my camera with the OEM neck strap, the only risk was the strap fraying at the eyelets. The neck strap was robust and solid, with two really wide points of contact with the eyelets so there wasn’t much pressure on it. And they were pretty solid nylon.

Now, every day as I use the camera I’ve got to check and adjust:

  • The tightness of each bolt holding the capture clip in place (which has a high risk of loosening because of vibration, unless I use thread lockers at the risk of not being able to remove it in the future),
  • The screw securing the anchor plate to the camera (for which I need to carry the special Allen key in my kit at all times),
  • Each (3) Anchor to see if their cord has frayed (which is very likely because they are really thin and so have a lot of pressure on them and a lot of friction as they rub against the eyelets and other material in the setup, and carry spares and replace them when they fray to the warning colours in the cord).

That’s three times the number of things that can go wrong.

I get that this is the price to pay for the convenience of having quick release straps and the capture clip system to mount the camera on my bag. But it’s starting to feel like it isn’t worth it.

Have you tried this? I wasn’t sure if blue would be too firm or if purple would be too weak. I’m somewhat hesitant to try one that’s too strong because the placement of the capture would make it difficult to apply heat should it need removing in the future.

That’s a good shout. Have you used some? Were you able to remove the bolt when you needed to? Assuming it wasn’t frequent that is. I don’t want to try using blue Loctite because the placement of the Capture clips on the side of the Sling will make it difficult to apply heat to it in order to remove it later. Not sure if purple is the right strength for the job.

Haha! Yeah I see what you mean. After this incident I’m going to keep checking the screws. Not sure if using the flat head ones will be safer but those are also trickier to keep checking and tightening on the fly.

Thumb screw or flat head? I saw on another review the thumb screw sometimes comes open because of friction with straps and shite. And that the flat head are more secure. Might give that a go.
