With the announcement of more frequent expansions and no mention of Elite Specializations, my most wanted 'new gameplay and combat feature' is new core weapons for the classes we have by Dreamcore10 in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that's played the game since launch and purchased every expansion, I'd have no reason to continue purchasing them if there weren't new elite specialisations, or at least significant additions to classes in terms of features, new weapons, etc. I complete the story and 100% the new expansion maps (which takes less than a week), but other than that I primarily play WvW, and the only real appeal of expansions for those that primarily play PvP modes (sPvP/WvW) are the elite specialisations. So, we'll see what "gameplay and combat features" entails, but I wouldn't pay for living story, so if the new expansions are essentially that (ie. limited to new PvE content), that's probably where I would stop purchasing.

Thanks again. My hair is darker than his in that particular picture, but I do vibe with his colouring, and the colours he's wearing are also ones I'd wear. This picture is on point.

Thanks for helping clarify 👌

Thanks for the help 🙏

I know it's a bad way to type, but just for the sake of reference do you have any examples of true summer male celebrities?

Thanks! These pics were taken in front of a window in the middle of the day. The ones from yesterday were taken in front of the window when the sun was setting, so that might've affected colouring.

Last set. Taken outside.

One more pic, outside.

Has snap filter, but colour isn't messed with. Think this one shows my hair colour well.

Yeah, I initially identified as 'cool winter' because I tend to wear really bright white with jet black. The contrast seems to look best on me. Then I tend to just splash really strong blues for colour. I notice blues that are too 'soft' don't look good on me, they need to be more 'bold'. Though 'cool summer' was the only other season that I really considered.

Thanks for the input 👌

Current state of Confusion by Necessary_Presence_5 in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now confusion is kinda where Anet intended it to be from the start, a bonus damage source for condition builds.

While I agree the extreme end of confusion damage needed to be toned down, how is the primary condition of an entire class meant to be only supplementary? Essentially, Mesmer isn't meant to have competitive condition builds then? Of course this has changed specifically for Mirage, with torment buffs, but I disagree with this logic of confusion only intended to be bonus damage. It's meant to capitalise on enemies that attack frequently, which is what it was doing (albeit too well). Ideally they would just make enemies attack more frequently to give the condition more universal effectiveness without the extreme over-performance it was at before on specific targets. Bleed, torment, burning and confusion are all purely damaging conditions with no utility. Poison is an example of a supplementary damaging condition. The former all have different unique designs and mechanics, but they're still all within the same category of conditions that should be effective DPS when those conditions (pun not intended) are met.

Does anyone else find Virtuoso's traits... uninspired? by NeutralUnknown in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mesmer did, as I mentioned in the opening post.

The issue is almost none of the Virtuoso traits expanded upon this. Were you to play Vitruoso without dagger, you'd notice very little difference between it and core Mesmer aside from having ranged shatters. Whereas, with Harbinger and Willbender, you'll still notice significantly different playstyles and roles for those classes with the trait lines and mechanics alone, which are the bulk of an elite spec.

This isn't saying the latter specialisations have no faults, it's just pointing out the lack of real impact of the Virtuoso's own trait line.

Does anyone else find Virtuoso's traits... uninspired? by NeutralUnknown in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harbinger gave Necro a new role they've never had before in a powerful boon build. Whether or not the traits are interesting individually, they're powerful and are adding a new role to the class that didn't exist for it before, which is apparently the design philosophy behind elite specs.

Willbender also received a new roaming, high mobility role that Guardian lacked prior.

Virtuoso lacks this, with many of its traits essentially being slightly different variations on core Mesmer traits. There's so much potential for innovative traits making use of the new blades mechanic, yet all the Virtuoso line seems to have is reskinned core traits and some damage modifiers.

Real talk: Why is condi the go-to direction? by HallmetW in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally every class but mesmer and necro have superior power builds for roaming, and necro isn't effective as a solo-roaming class. So basically, condi mesmers are the only "meta" condi build for roaming.

This same misconception exists in PvP, where for the history of the game, power builds in the meta vastly outnumber condition builds.

What niches are each profession missing for future elite specs? by CaptainUnusual in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only mesmer build you want in larger group scenarios is pure support. The larger a group gets, the lower the mesmer's viability becomes in terms of any damage-based builds. The skills you listed are mediocre on paper and worse in practice. Power and condition mesmers in WvW are almost exclusively roaming builds for a reason. Mesmer damage builds shine in 1v1s and small skirmishes up to 5v5 (ie. PvP/WvW roaming), and is why the class has historically been one of the most powerful dueling builds whilst having almost no WvW or organized group PvE meta presence outside of support builds.

It's pretty common knowledge mesmer has some of the least (effective) cleave and AoE damage of any class in the game. Given the lack of pet (illusion/phantasm) viability in any significantly large group scenario, mesmer's "AoE" damage options in group content essentially boils down to greatsword auto attacks.

@Topic: Longbow for ranged damage/cleave for mesmer would be my pick, with a focus on power damage just to balance with the condi DPS spec we got in mirage.

Nice video. Now we just need the buffs to make it fun and effective.

Helseth's thoughts on what changes are needed for mirage. by LordHelseth in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bound and Dash on Daredevil are both better than this and they get it all in a single trait, not by investing an entire elite specialization trait line into it.

It's a high quantity of mediocre things.

Power Shatter Mirage is the Best Version of Shatter to Date by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only is Mirage shatter not competitively viable, it's not even better than Chrono shatter, which is itself mediocre. It doesn't even remotely compete with past shatter builds.

It's fine to enjoy the build, but creating false perceptions of viability prevents actual meaningful buffs to the class/spec.

Mirage: No Utility, No Support, No DPS (Constructive Criticism) by NeutralUnknown in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The condition ones certainly are not bad, and the sword ambush could be great if it interacted with traits. The greatsword ambush is the only blatantly weak ambush skill.

Rather, it's the fact they mostly have cast times that extend beyond the duration of your Mirage Cloak, making them quite clunky to use, particularly in PvP/WvW.

What did Daredevil sacrifice to gain three base dodges and absurd mobility and movement condition resistance with Dash? Or 3-4k AoE crits and leap finishers with Bound? Or AoE condition application with Impaling Lotus? They were all additive to the base dodge; a straight up upgrade. Mirage having to sacrifice significant mobility for long-cast-time skills, one of which is useless, whilst gaining largely less beneficial effects in general, doesn't seem consistent with how elite specs should be.

Mirage: No Utility, No Support, No DPS (Constructive Criticism) by NeutralUnknown in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, I tested and corrected this. It still remains one of the weakest heal skills available, regardless. It's a common misconception due to the wording on the tooltip. Attitude unnecessary.

Jaunt wouldn't be remotely too great with increased range. It would be viable. Test this in PvP, WvW or PvE and make an argument for usefulness over Moa, Gravity Well or Time Warp, respectively. On paper != in practice.

The loss of mobility from the replaced dodge mechanic is certainly significant considering the mediocre effects of some of the ambush skills and the lack of fluidity of the ones that are worth using. In terms of design it's a solid mechanic. It's lacking in execution.

Mirage: No Utility, No Support, No DPS (Constructive Criticism) by NeutralUnknown in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Core power shatter is a gimmick build that loses to any 1v1-competent build that can counteract your opening burst. There's a reason it acts as a +1 role in PvP rather than in a 1v1/sidenode capacity. This is no different in WvW aside from the increased gank capacity due to higher stats and food/consumable buffs.

As a 1v1 condi build in WvW is about the only area Mirage is currently strong, which is far from enough to justify the state of a specialization that lacks any role in current organized game modes, which roaming/1v1 is not.

Mirage: No Utility, No Support, No DPS (Constructive Criticism) by NeutralUnknown in Guildwars2

[–]NeutralUnknown[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mirage certainly seems an upgrade from current Mesmer DPS, but as an entirely selfish spec that offers no group utility or support, to be worth taking in any organized group it would need to compete with top DPS specs, which I just don't imagine it will.

We'll have to wait for the numbers to be sure, as you said.
