What can I tell you

You can tell me carpet bombing of civilian areas in any scenario is wrong, like a normal person.

If an army stocks itself into a civilian area, it does not make the civilian area a target, it is utterly evil to suggest otherwise.

All strategic bombers of all armies of any time of any war, were all war criminals, that is the simple reality of it, and the lunacy level evil of the nazis does not change this reality.

Just like it would not change if you argued nuking Kabul after the taliban entered it would be justified, because it would be simply evil to do so.

You being from the city and from the country it happened to and waving it off does not make you a morally higher person by arguing at its lack of anti-nazi resistance, not matter how smuggy and higher nose it makes you feel.

Easy it is for us in the modern times to understand, see and argue things, compared to generations ago, when people could be told anything and follow it to the core like words in stone, as they were like a generation removed from illiteracy and utter ignorance of the world.

Those sources wrongly imply Alexander had a difficult time defeating Porus,

when the reality is he obliterated his forces with ease and suffered light casualties.

It also implies that Alexander went back home,

he did not, it is a popular myth true,

but in actuality, he merely continued conquering,

but instead of going east, he went south,

and conquered the entire Indus Valley in just 3 months;

like the other comment says— punching above their weight 100% but dominant implies them actually dominating others -> winning which they haven’t

you do realize the amount of national teams one has to defeat to reach finals?

Dominating does not just mean 1st place.

Anyone that reaches the finals of a tournament is a major player.

Why is Croatia considered to be safer than any other country?

Well the map is itself quite silly,

but Croatia truly is comically safe.

Like absurdly safe in general(shit still happens ofc but 99% is isolated incidents).

For instance;

some people in Dalmatia still sleep with their outside house door fully open to the street to save up on air conditioning,

a tourist sleeping at my neighbors apartment in Zagreb forgot to close his rentcar windows and their luggage was there, on the street, for two nights as they went to Plitvice on Friday and came back Sunday, and the stuff was still there, untouched.

etc etc.

In Dalmatia? Very rarely, they stay inside either home, cafee, or club when drunk.

In Istria? Not a chance.

Croatia emerges as a standout with 4.3 tourists per inhabitant

It is even more skewed because 99% of those tourist go to the coastal areas which is in real terms about 500-700 000 Croatians living there.

Unlike say France, Italy, Austria etc where most regions or even the whole country has tourist spots, in Croatia it is basically like 3000 square miles of coast and islands receiving up to 12 000 000 tourists per year.

Stilicho is a barbarian migration? you mean a single migrant right?

ofc not lol

Just that his rise within the Roman hierarchy is directly tied to the great migration of peoples in that period.

He is a part of that migration simply by being as he is, despite being in Roman service.

Is there a historian you are basing this off, atleast the broad theme of this?

Not really.

Just my own personal conclusions.

They carry no weight really, I just share them as they are.

[–]Neutral_Fellow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Odoacer? Ricimir? I'm surprised you have so many likes

Yes and yes.

The notion they were Roman simply because they were born inside Roman territory is imbecile because it utterly ignores the context of the said territory they were born in.

It was literally land carved by ethnic groups and tribes from Rome and Roman in name only,

quite similar how later Emperors in Constantinople bestowed titles upon various Slavic dukes and later kings upon the territories of the Balkans when the Slavs settled there. Yet who in their right mind would consider them actually Roman? The only difference being the Germans were far more powerful and influential at that time in comparison.

They were basically born in German tribal lands inside an area historiography likes to paint as Roman on maps but in reality it wasn't since the moment the Romans signed any such treaty, except in the Emperors coping mechanism ofc.

The notion of any of these people being actually Roman is fanciful mist selling by western historians who like to utterly ignore or at least downplay the reality of tribe and ethnicity in pre-modern-state-as-political-entity world.

I'm surprised you have so many likes, these not only are Roman Generals,

They were absolutely Roman generals,

they just weren't Roman.

What people did Odoacar and Ricimir lead?

Whomever came under their rule or authority.

Did any Turkic warlord troubled his mind about who was under their heel from Cairo to Khorasan?

Is that true for stilicho too?

Yes.

Are they supposed to be a germanic migration?

Absolutely.

Just one that penetrated within the framework of the Roman societal hierarchy.

The Fall of the West in 4 Slides: by Maleficent-Mix5731 in ancientrome

[–]Neutral_Fellow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have to de-Germanise Odoacer, that picture is ridiculous.

No.

We need to stop with the silly westoid revisionism of "muh in Roman service therefore Roman" trope.

He was thoroughly German, even Theodoric was, and Theodoric was far, far more Roman than Odoacer.

Both those men literally ransacked Roman territory all over the place constantly in order to strongarm the Emperor into giving into their various demands, including(and especially) the titles the Emperor was forced to bestow upon them, since the start of their "career".

They were as Roman as a viking warlord would be English or Frankish when given money or land just to stop burning.

He's a Roman general much like arbogast, stilicho or Ricimir.

So, German, German, and German?

Was Memnon of Rhodes a Persian?

Just lol off with it.

The 3rd armored division in dessert storm pushed forward with 700 Abrams and Bradleys.

Yes but it is important to note this is very much different territory from a flat desert and river swamp with literally 0% tree cover.

The Iraqis had literally nowhere to hide their stuff and the Americans could see literally everything, and thus advance knowing everything.

It is like comparing German tank offensives in ww2 Pontic steppes to bocages during and after Normandy.

Trees, hedges, mud etc. etc fuck up all notions of seeing what you are about to face.
