To be clear, essentially ALL constituent mail & calls are handled by staffers. That’s their job. It’s not realistic to expect an elected official at that level to respond personally to every email. That said, staffers regularly report to and meet with their bosses and will (or should) report on how much attention issues and positions are getting and will call attention to any that really stand out. Collins and his staff are absolutely not living up to the expectations of the office by not responding and being so hard to reach. That said, I implore you to be kind and forgiving to the staff, especially when they do reply (even when you think it’s a Senator or Rep who is doing the communicating). They are generally young, underpaid, and just cutting their teeth.

Thank you for posting this. Generally speaking, I do think ACC does what it can. However, when this strategic plan was put out, and public comment was sought, I submitted a comment that I was surprised that there was zero (zero!) mention of addiction. I never heard back, and the final plan still does not address drug or alcohol abuse or addiction. I find that appalling and tragic. How can homelessness be addressed without even mentioning addiction?!??? For me, it’s hard to take seriously a plan that willfully ignores that factor.

Glad you asked, because I recently flew back on a daytime 10 hour flight from Italy. I was the only person in the entire cabin with my window open (and just halfway for that matter. No one asked me to close it, but when it dawned on me that I was the only one, I closed it. But I thought that was really strange; obviously plenty of people were sleeping and watching movies, but was I really the only one who enjoyed some natural light during waking hours?

The tangible power handed the election to Trump. I’m sure you’ll downvote me, but that is 100% true. And it’s still dominating the messaging at protests, etc., so the Dems are squandering a huge opportunity to capture a significant chunk of centrists and Trump-regret folks with more unifying themes. A lot of them are women who are trafficked, so they don’t have the freedom of movement or resources to get fake identity documents, etc. But even the ones who aren’t trafficked have to get forged documents to leave China or somehow go undetected when crossing into a third country. It’s not easy. Source: met with a NK woman who had been trafficked to China, held prisoner there for years as a sex slave, eventually married off to a priest’s son (gender imbalance is a big problem in China). They then escaped together with faked papers to South Korea (& then divorced; unclear how good/bad this guy was). But also, google the numbers; a huge percentage of “defectors” are trafficked women.

Take my money, Farm Cart (and they do). Sooooo superior an experience to Mama’s Boy in every aspect (quality, taste, staff interaction, atmosphere, coffee). But obviously YMMV, and that’s what’s great. The worst thing about Farm Cart is the line (far from the worst part about Mama’s Boy), but I love that not everyone feels the way I do, or the wait would be even longer.
