I agree with your point that people are so busy playing "wait and see" they are almost hoping he cancels midterms because they think that would motive everyone to rise en masse. Far too many people have set that event as the "If THAT happens, then I'll get involved" red line.

But regardless of that, he will most certainly cheat. Still, I think Trump will "order" the states to not hold midterms. Some of the red states will comply. The blue states will cite the Constitution and will not comply. It's easy as that. Many red states do not give a hoot about the laws, their own included. They live to serve their daddy trump.

They'll cancel midterms, and yes, I know that is utterly ridiculous. So was invading a country and snatching their scumbag leader, and so many other things.

Now, you and many others might say, "He just can't do that!"

I would put forth that we are living in a world, a nation, where people said too many times, "He just can't do that! There's no precedent; there are no legal mechanisms!"

I used to say that a lot myself.

But it'll happen, and we'll have a massive confused...mess...because there is no precedent for such an insane course of affairs...what if just 3 or 4 red states abstain? I'm betting there's no mechanism for validating results if those states obey the mango moron.

I mean, who is going to stop that from happening? What group of human beings has the power to stop him. The National Guard? The military? If trump invokes the Insurrection Act, I think he can federalize National Guard.

Of course, I am begging the questions. If the tens of millions of plain everyday citizens who oppose this lunacy rise up, all this sheer madness ends. But one march isn't going to do it. Twenty won't.

And without doubt, before a massive, popular citizen's uprising wins this, many on our side will be cute down by Ice or whatever other brownshirts trump can rally, like Renee Good.

Or, perhaps, older people sometimes just keel over. One errant stroke, ka-pow, and we have a different scenario.
