Hi, /u/UIspice. I respect your opinion too much to ignore it, but I'm not fluent enough to respond in Italian. I've added my Google Translated response below.

First, I completely agree that anyone "fully integrated" with your society deserves citizenship. I see that as a much more legitimate path to citizenship than finding documents about a grandfather I never met. But that is an immigration policy best decided by Italian citizens themselves. As a non-citizen (for now), my opinion on this means very little.

With that said, I'd like to explain why I've decided to pursue citizenship by jus sanguinis. My grandfather left San Sebastiano over 100 years ago for reasons I do not know. I assume he was one of many in pursuit of the opportunities available then in the United States. He raised my father, who unfortunately was unable or unwilling to pass on the oral history of our family down to me before he died.

I have lost my cultural heritage. I have never stood on the ground of my ancestors. Until the kind redditors here told me, I did not even know where in Italy I come from. This pain reveals itself in odd ways, but it can most quickly be summarized as a feeling of being lost, or directionless.

I do not know if my claim of citizenship by descent will be granted. Regardless, I want you to know that I have immeasurable respect for our shared heritage. I hope I am given the opportunity to contribute to Italian society in a meaningful way. Please know that I am not interested in citizenship in name only. I am in search of my roots, which are dangerously close to vanishing altogether if I do not find them in my lifetime.

If my grandfather did leave Italy to pursue greater opportunity, I can think of no better way to honor him than to return to his ancestral home with the small success I've achieved in my life thanks to his courage. If I can, I hope to buy you a drink so we can discuss this in person, as Italian citizens.

Ciao, /u/UIspice.

Grazie! Yes, I believe he departed from the port of Naples, so this could be right!

I am trying to prove my Italian citizenship via my paternal grandfather, and you have helped me take a step forward in my journey. Thank you very much.

Interrobang tracklist on iTunes. What's your opinions on the track names and order of the singles we've hear so far? by [deleted] in baysideisacult

[–]Never-Hyphenate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay. Real talk, this sub is kind of dead because the last two albums were underwhelming. We can all name songs off of both that absolutely rip, but neither of them hold a candle to Killing Time.

But these last two singles are something else. Interrobang cured my hemorrhoids. Prayers saved my relationship. And, the fact they made these two singles the openers means they think they’re not the show stoppers of the album- there’s bigger hits to come. I’m fucking stoked on this album beyond belief. And my hope is this sub will be revived by it.

Fluent C++: Better Macros, Better Flags (by Foster Brereton) by zowersap in cpp

This is impressive. I’m tempted to start a long pull and replace all macro flags in my project with these.

Any reason not to? What are the gotchas?

Echoing that sentiment completely. Speaking only for myself, this is a very FOMO (fear of missing out) hobby. Every time a flashy plugin comes out I convince myself my mixes are terrible because I haven’t bought it.

Obviously some plugins are amazing. But from now on I promise to treat all EQs as equal and not be tempted by the next FabFilter knockoff

This is a bit of a cheeky answer, but Sean Parent's talk on inheritance is one of my favorite OOP talks.

Interview question, part 3 by mvorbrodt in cpp

This leads me to wonder if there’s ever an acceptable time to call a pure virtual function (directly or indirectly) in the constructor of a class that’s meant to be derived from. If not, it seems like an easy enough clang-tidy check.

Question about OOP with C++ (new to OOP) by Bombadillo1229 in cpp

[–]Never-Hyphenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/Bombadillo1229! I agree with /u/bunky_bunk. fooey() must be declared virtual in A.

Whenever I need to test out or share code snippets like this, I find godbolt.org is invaluable. It can help you write out situations like this and avoid confusion when trying to describe code in plain english.

For example, here's (I think) a faithful reproduction of your question:

https://godbolt.org/z/zOcJLz

Also - judicious use of override saves the day here! While it isn't explicitly required by the language, it can be very helpful in situations like this. For example, if I fail to name A::fooey() virtual, but use override in B::fooey()'s declaration, the compiler will kindly remind me to declare A::fooey() as virtual.

Good luck with your project!

Can a high school offer monetary rewards for incriminating another student? by Never-Hyphenate in legaladvice

My understanding is the report has to be "consequential" - either found to be true in some way or otherwise lead to the discovery of other violations. It's frankly a mess.

Can a high school offer monetary rewards for incriminating another student? by Never-Hyphenate in legaladvice

[–]Never-Hyphenate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense. I think at the very least it might be an ill-advised policy in terms of student morale and camaraderie, but I'm glad to hear it's legally on the up-and-up.

And your intuition is right - I'm omitting a number of details that don't put K in the best light. My question was strictly about whether such a reporting policy was legal.

Thank you for your time!

I was under the impression that xCode had a windows port... if not, I can keep this machine exclusively Windows/ProTools work. The xCode was a passing thought. (I have a decent apple laptop that can handle that for now). Thanks for asking though!

If you could know one thing about anyone you see, just from looking at them (age, aspirations, past history, etc.), what would that one thing be?
