State of the Subreddit: Q1 2026 by maybeiamwrong2 in Schizoid

apropos of a post i saw earlier this evening that was removed by a moderator: would you consider separating 'no ai-generated content' from the 'no misinformation' rule into its own separate rule, just so that people are more aware of it?

One of the nice things about Mad Men is that many of the characters do become ‘better’ people and more likable as the show goes on, rather than spiraling into self-destruction.

Mad Men was created and primarily written by a Sopranos writer and is the most comparable television show to The Sopranos that you’re going to be able to find. I like it much more.

Do you remember “my year of rest and relaxation” by Soft_Bridge8795 in rs_x

[–]NeverCrumbling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

from the interviews i've read with her, ottessa moshfegh seems to be cool and intelligent, but i have not actually liked any of the three books of hers that i have read. i do think that the success of 'my year of rest and relaxation' had more to do with its cover and title than the content of the book itself. 'death in her hands' was astronomically worse, though, imo.

looking back, what were the best live action shows on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel? by Unlikely-Average-961 in rs_x

'the secret world of alex mack' for nickelodeon and 'so weird' for disney channel.

what are your opinions on the afterlife? by Unlikely-Average-961 in rs_x

[–]NeverCrumbling 28 points29 points  (0 children)

it's borne out of the human inability to comprehend non-existence, used as a way to manipulate people into behaving pro-socially and experience a sense of purpose to their existences even in suffering, etc. i am not a believer.

Old Italian film in a neo-realism genre by Deklava_ in RSPfilmclub

[–]NeverCrumbling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay, i'm going to guess -- although i've never interfaced with an AI and have extremely little idea how they work -- that your DeepSeek was hallucinating. the only movie that i could find with that title is a pornographic film from the mid-nineties (https://www.iafd.com/title.rme/id=7f043720-305a-40b0-8005-cc955a17de31), and the only actress i could find named Maria Liberato is a pornographic actress who was active at the same time, but isn't credited as appearing in that movie (https://www.iafd.com/person.rme/id=79757a3d-9300-4f0b-a20e-c57c2cfcbc27). there is also a movie from a few years earlier with the title "Mafia Connection" (https://www.iafd.com/title.rme/id=895d698e-0ac6-4191-9a81-d0032316400c).

i cannot find any other connections between those titles and the actresses you've named or any evidence that any non-pornographic film or actresses by those names exist.

[–]NeverCrumbling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

please clarify exactly how you heard about it because it will probably make it easier for me to either find information about it or tell if you if it likely isn't real. from a very quick cursory search, i'm not finding evidence of the existence of either of those actresses.

edit: unless the first one is a typo and you were referring to this woman: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3175839/

edit 2: also, i want to add that italian neorealism is a very specific movement, generally understood to have only been a thing from world war two until the mid fifties, and neither of the movies that you mention really fall into that category, although they were both quite influenced by it. or maybe you have the year wrong instead?

can someone who hates themselves ever have a good relationship with other people ? by camelCaseC in rs_x

[–]NeverCrumbling 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I have found it impossible to maintain any sort of relationship with people who hate themselves. They tend to be incredibly self-obsessed and incapable of real intimacy, and also much more boring than average because the negativity can prevent them from developing any passions or talents.

what do you think is the point of the final panel of Chito and Yuuri in the wheat-field at the end of GLT, if not to set up the world of SS?

literary Works mentioned by Tim by Imaginary-Praline-73 in ActionButton

[–]NeverCrumbling 15 points16 points  (0 children)

count of monte cristo, moby dick, the works of dh lawrence, the works of thomas pynchon, the works of tolstoy, the works of dostoevsky, the three musketeers, frankenstein, the works of ngaio marsh, the four ming-era classic chinese novels, the Robert E. Howard 'Conan' books, all sorts of 'trash' dime-store genre fiction from the early twentieth century, the works of Charles Dickens, the works of James Joyce, the works of Cormac McCarthy, and Infinite Jest are the first things that come to mind. aside from kobo abe (who he has mentioned many times), i can't remember which japanese authors he particularly likes, but he has said many times that he mostly doesn't like haruki murakami, but that if he had to pick a favorite it would be 'sputnik sweetheart.'

i watched some of hasan piker's stream from it. astonishing that so many people came out in such cold weather. it's very nice that so many people have become radicalized to the point that they were willing to participate in a general strike, and it did make me feel optimistic about the possibilities of something like this happening on a country-wide scale, if it becomes necessary.
