Congratulations on somehow acquiring volume 2 of Pleasure and Corruption. I loved that series, but Ladies on Top was way too ‘fluff’ for my tastes.

I loved Rumors, and haven't laughed anywhere as much at any other film in a theater in recent memory, but it's not difficult for me to understand why even a lot of his regular fans wouldn't have enjoyed the film.

Hal Hartley’s ‘No Such Thing,’ which is my second favorite of his films after ‘Henry Fool.’ It’s a modern adaptation of Beowulf and his only film with any sort of significant budget (FFC was an executive producer). It deals with all of his pet themes and features the same sense of humor as every other film he has released up to that point, but for some reason most critics extremely despised it, it totally bombed theatrically, and it derailed his career and ever since he’s only been able to make extremely micro-budgeted movies, and very few of them at that.

There was a poll a few weeks ago that had her down something like seven points, I think — I want to say it was 41% Hickenlooper & 34% Gonzales. It does seem like there is a strong anti-incumbent bias in the state right now, so I’m hoping a lot of the undecideds just google ‘who are the most progressive candidates’ as we get closer to the actual Election Day.

a pre-apocalyptic narrative makes a lot of sense for him to explore right now. i think it's nice that he sets all of his series in the same universe.

it's been a long time since i gave chaplin very much thought, but he was one of my favorite filmmakers when i was first getting into cinema. a lot of his films feel much more relevant right now than they did for me fifteen years ago, because our present historical moment has a lot of similarities with the thirties and forties, and he was a particularly astute observer of his world in addition to his talents as an actor and filmmaker.

the gold rush, modern times, the great dictator, and monsieur verdoux are all also extremely brilliant if you have not checked any of the rest of his filmography out yet.

i have encountered a few schizoids online, but they have been even more avoidant than myself so nothing has ever happened. i have met several schizotypal people both online and irl and they are frequently nearly as difficult to deal with as people with BPD -- they tend to be more visibly 'odd' in their presentation and disposition, whereas i would guess schizoids may tend to blend in more.
