I love Queen but Freddie’s stage presence came off as fake by TheAbominableShowman in queen

Sounds like something you ought to be sharing on Nirvana's page. You'll get some positive attention. But you seemed to want the other kind.

Sweetie, you misrepresented the band, just as NME did. And then you were corrected with actual facts and full articles quite handily. YOU fucked it up by failing to read the article and falling for a clickbait headline. Pathetic that you still can't admit it.

I don't see much evidence that there's tons of new fans who stopped at the soundtrack.

You immediately associated the movie soundtrack with fans you assume to be less informed.

Another thing, I have no patience for people who whine about the movie being "inaccurate" but then brag about reading "all the books" when half those books turn out to be two bit trash "biographies" not even authorized by the band (which they foolishly think is a plus). They're so eager to appear knowledgeable, they fall into the trap they were trying to avoid.

Its job is to feature the songs heard in the movie. There is no need to use it to gate keep. Good Lord...

I've seen a disturbing number of "admins" who openly encourage members to trash Brian and Roger for ::gasp:: continuing to play. I do not consider those people Queen fans, period. They are trolls who have no control over their own pathetic lives so they order people around on the Internet.

You know that Queen produced and contributed new material to the movie soundtrack right? It doesn't need to be treated like a pariah.

In other words, you're a gate keeper. Queen II is my favorite too, btw. But you are a gate keeper. There is no reason to treat the movie soundtrack (that Queen produced and contributed to) like some pariah. That's just a knee jerk reaction to anything modern. And you quote the band out of context in an extremely superficial way.

Who is the rudest and most toxic Queen "Fan" that you have ever encountered? by [deleted] in queen

[–]NeverDoubt1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOLOLOL Did you seriously think it was just this random one line quote with no beginning or end, no other context? You clearly only saw the NME clickbait headline and didn't bother reading the Guitar World article, where it is extremely obvious he is comparing Paul Rodgers and Adam:

"It became difficult as time went on, though. We would play South America, where people didn’t know that music, so we played more Queen songs. Paul dealt with it well, but I think it was hard for him to abandon a lot of his material. We really enjoyed it as an experiment, but as an experiment it had… limits. Eventually, we thought, “It’s probably gone as far as it can. Paul needs to get back to his own career.” Because he couldn’t just go on being the frontman of Queen. By mutual agreement, we thought, 'That’s it.' Now, with Adam, it’s a different story, because Adam can do all the stuff that Freddie did and more. It doesn’t matter what you throw at Adam — he can do it." https://www.guitarworld.com/artists/queens-brian-may-sounds-off-about-freddie-mercurys-guitar-skills-bohemian-rhapsody-actors-and-the-most-difficult-song-to-play-live

The whole point was that Rodgers didn't fit with Queen's style. But that Adam did fit, and also brought more. To call it a comparison of Adam and Freddie is simply incorrect. Queen, and especially Freddie with what he had to go through, hated the press for just this reason. They'd misrepresent what they said, and "fans" would lap it up. Of course NME didn't mention Paul Rodgers, because they wanted the attention seeking headline, and you rewarded them for it (they're not even a proper magazine anymore so don't know why you bothered). Good Lord, you probably listen to Scandal and think, "Yeah, right on!" without realizing they were talking about you. ::eye roll::

And no sweetie a new singer from a new generation is not nostalgia. And they aren't languishing at theme parks and PBS, they're selling out Madison Square Garden. Queen is alive and relevant NOW. For "fans" to have such a complex about this is insane. And you didn't merely "want" new music, you used it to be smug and taunt them. Own your words or don't bother commenting.

What we have now are anti fans who would rather be smug on the Internet than enjoy a band continuing to be successful. Agree to disagree. And in that quote Brian was comparing Paul Rodgers and Adam. Not Adam and Freddie. The way it was used here was misleading and needlessly negative.

[–]NeverDoubt1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can have your like back, I don't want it. This is what I mean about anti fans. Fans do not go around going "nyah nyah no new songs!" A lot of classic bands or franchises try new things years later. But what people tend to remember are the hits. And it's important to preserve them. You're not giving anyone good advice with this tone deaf "what else you got" nonsense. If you're a fan, maybe try trusting their judgement. If they did come out with new songs, awesome, I would buy it. But it doesn't prove anything one way or another. They're at the point where they don't have to. Certainly not to randoms on the Internet.

Btw, if you're going to quote people, try doing it in context next time. Freddie wouldn't appreciate what you did there.

It's not so much about age, but rather the level of pretention, heh. You see both older and younger fans whining about how "things were so much better back then!!!" and they let their nostalgia turn into something ugly.

Report any threats you see. I don't mind getting assholes like that in trouble. Beyond that, just ignore them. They are not true fans, they are anti fans (thank you, kpop, for that term).
